Guru is only half the story. Premeir is D-O-P-E! The man's got skillz! I caught them in Vancouver a ways back.
yeah man, Premier is.. But when I listen to Guru, i just cant take it.. It gets in my head like the sound of a drill running constantly!! Personally i cant handle him :D

bleh... Premiers instrumentals are pretty nice but he uses the same drums alot and they all kind of sound alike... He has his own style for making beats and alot of newer producers are biting his style, but he needs to expand his talents more... So hes tight, but there are alot more talented producers like the neptunes who are use a wider array of sounds, and equipment, and not just a mpc2000xl with ripped drums and samples for producing, I like premiers beats over the neptunes but the neptunes are clearly more talented and show a vast variety of talent and not just 1 style of beat production, is what im trying to get at! ;) Sample 4 drums onto the mpc, tap out a bass line, loop some piano or classical music and you got a premier beat...

Neptunes? That's not hip hop(grrr!)...I admit Premeir's beats may be somewhat predictable...but that was the shizz back in the day. That beat is what I grew up with. Maybe its my age, but Nas on a DJ Premeir track is unbeatable in my books.

Slim Shady is my fav rapper, Matt K why dont you like 50? He has some sick rhymes. Im not a huge fan of CDN hip hop, some of it is good but some other stuff is just horrible.

Gotta support your Can Con, Bro. There are a lot of hype acts out of Canada.

Yea thats true, but if i cant get into the music, i cant really support it. Alternative CDN bands kick *** though, the hip, OLP, sum 41, etc...

Best Canadian Hiphop release to date in my eyes was the Rap Essentials Volume 1. I agree with you on the Nas over a Premier beat :P Actually any semi mono pitch MC can flow dirty over a premier beat... Even Jadakiss sounds nice on them. haha yeah Neptunes isnt hiphop, but i meant to say like any track Pharrel releases with someone else delivering on... I dont even like them personally but the sound is unique everytime and there is alot more time and equipment involved in making those beats. Another nice producer in my eyes is The Alchemist.. Cant sleep on him, he stays in the back burner and doesnt really step into the front like like the other producers but he drops some hot tracks and is probably in my top 3.
its not that i dont like Fifty, i just dont like the whole monotone thing. If you like Eminem, as you say you do, have you heard the Album Infinite??? On that he's sooo unbelievably monotone and its just annoying.. But look how he has come out of that now.. You have to support your Canadian artists dude.. Classfied, Dan-e-o, Monolith and Bishop are the ones i listen to most now. Went to High School with Bishop, its kinda weird hearing him on the radio now.

Yea i heard infinite, its a weird listening to it. Its amazing how far Eminem has come. Bishop and Classfied are sick but its not something that i would go to the store and buy, just listen to it on the radio and muchmusic.

Jadakiss and Nas are not even comparable:p Lyrically, Nas took it to another level with "illmatic". He was the next step up from Rakim. Eminem was a Nas clone when he first stepped off. Mind you, the first time I heard him was on the Cali Kings mix tape vol.1. I had that track on repeat in my car for like a week. Had no idea he was...uh...caucasian.
Bootz, Em even admits to being a Nas clone :P so many people hear an old track off Infinite or off Soul Intent and think its Nas.

bleh everyone sounds like someone... If you listen to any fifty tracks pre his last album release and Jay-z's old tracks you could say hes a clone of J :P
Jeff's a clone of Clockwork :D

True...but we all gotta come from somewhere, right? I used to be a crazy Hip Hop Head until everybody went "Bling Bling". Then I was just listening to my staples like Nas, Red and Meth. I get defensive about these guys...Actually, It was the Canadian acts like K-os and Rascalz, and different stuff like Eminem that brought me back.

lol well you also have to realize when you get a couple million in the bank and steady flow coming in, your not going to keep rhyming about grimey stuff and the street life etc... They all turn blingey etc because there whole lifestyle has changed and they are rhyming about what they are now going through as before they were rhyming about how they were living then :P So in my eyes they are just ebing true to themselves, I mean lets be serious, someone with 50 million in the bank, talking about slinging on the corner would be ridiculous, wouldnt it?? :P

It doesn't have to be either street corner stuff OR blingey blingey. There are a myriad of other things to write about. That's why I like Eminem, Nas et al. Its not all about how much money you make or what whip you're spinnin'. If what you have financially is all you can think about there's no depth to what you are saying. Just me personally, but I like it when lyrics make you think.

If you're referring to the song on the cali kings album, its called 'still number one' its a Em freestyle over a krs one beat..

Ok thanks Matt K :)

HA, never thought I would see a hiphoptopic here. but,,
I've been spinning as a turntablist for about 4 years now. I've collected alot of records over the years. I've realized that it isn't always the best people that make it. Personally,
I find premier kindablows. As said B4, his beats are predictable and somewhat overrated. I do feel that a pioneer like him deserves respect. Yet from my past purchases, and dissapointments I don't buy premier anymore, unless I REALLY like the vocalist.
ON TOPIC;
Gangstarr's album is good. I was a little dissapointed to hear him go on about politics. I feel that is for the polititians, not rapperz.
MY FAVORITE PRODUCER?
hands down is,
http://home.cogeco.ca/~flow/NECRO.jpg
BUT LET ME WARN YOU NECRO IS NOT FOR THE SQUEEMISH OR WEAK MINDED. SAYING THAT, NOONE I HAVE EVER TALKED TO EVER MENTIONED NECRO BEING ANYTHING BUT A GREAT PRODUCER.
BEST CANADIAN RELEASE?
ODDITIES-- CHECK THEM--- http://oddlyenough.com

ha! necro is aight... I think he kind of fell off... Only release i liked from him was some ill bill stuff and on your knees... Producing hes tight, but when he rhymes he is off beat, pitch is all over the place, etc etc... I would much rather listen to some eastern conferance stuff over the necro stuff hands down... But to each his own :) On your Knees though is still one of my fav tracks :P He sampled that beautifully :P Oddities, isnt that rainbow son franks crew from much music??? My old room mate lives with Nix from circle research, he moved in when i moved out and hes down with all of those men. I never really listened to them in depth, what are some song titles????
