It's made out of 2x4. The containers come from Cdn Tire and are about $10 a piece on sale. Pretty easy to build this is just the first one I have planes to build at least one more. This one will hold my BP's. The other my Hog's and hopefully some carpets.

All that's left is some sanding and then priming and painting. It's on wheels too. I use all exoterra heat pads with a dimer on them for heat. I'm going to attach them with velcro to the containers.
Thanks for looking,
Trevor

I love it!! It looks easy to build. And you just slide the containers out to clean them right? And I love the way you can just look in the top to see what they are up to!

Looks good Trevor, just a few questions though... :)
Are you worried at all about nose rubs on the screen top and losing a lot of humidity as well?
Why'd you leave so much bloody space between the bins?!?!? You could fit like 4 more snakes on that rack buddy! ;)

2 things bro:
1) That screen is going to be a problem.
2) There is so much space between each shelf, you could put 5 more Rubbermaids in that rack!!
Check it out... This is an oldie pic of a rack I built out of the same-sized Rubbermaids. Snakes and venitlation do NOT go well together (for the most part). 10 small holes in the front and each shelf becomes the roof for the next cage down! Marc Mandic has a great how-to on his website for the same rack!!

Well I kinda got my inspiration from the rack system the Sutherlands use in their video. You should see the wire mess they use you could grate cheese on it. I also have a lid for an aquarium made from the same stuff. If they do start rubbing on it I'll relplace it with plexi(sp)glass with holes. I left so much space so I could see what's up in the cage with out having to pull the drawer out. I do think I'm going to change it though. I've got a few extra shelves already built for the second one. As for lossing humidity, I'm not worried at this point. I've kept a lot of snakes in large tanks with screen tops and I haven't had any problems yet. If I do I'm going to add a humidifiyer to the room.

The Sutherland's room, as well as NERD's is kept at like 80-85F and humid so that they don't really need cages. If you are going to do that, then ok. But 80-85F is a REALLY WARM room!

Jeff, my day time high is aprox 85 in summer and 80 in winter. NTL is 80 summer 75 winter. I need to get a good humidity gage for the room though bacause I'm not sure exactly where I stand in that area. I already started changing the spacing so I can add two more tubs.
Thanks,
Trevor

if you ran into humidity problems, you can always semi cover,or completely cover the top with something,as for the looks...i like it!

Thanks. I took some time and changed it so I can add two more trays. I did find that there was a wast of space between each tray. Two of these will be put to good use! Now I just have to paint the bloody things, that should be fun.
Cheers,
Trevor

Trev, there is nothing wrong with that design. If you look in my gallery on Queensnake you'll see I have been using a suspended tray system for a couple decades. I also screen mine, and snakes DO NOT injure themselves rubbing on it. Aluminum door screen is actually quite soft and smooth.
The only difference in my design is I used 1 by 3 pine, instead of 2 by 4's, and I get 18 trays in one 5 foot rack. Using 1 by 3's and screen makes my units light enough to push from my main room to my hibernation room.
I simply stain mine, using a sponge(it's fast) then give them a coat of varathane.
My newer units use Zellers pans, but any pan with straight strong lips, can be suspended. Many years ago, my first systems used jumbo Kitty litter pans. They are still in service almost 20 years later.
