View Full Version : My fire bellied toads are going crazy
One of my one year old femelle just laid 122 eggs. Now they are tadpole. the last time I count them they were 118. Wonderfull.
When they are gonna turn out into toads, how am I going to feed them?? Is there anyone who has an idea???
Any advise would be great.

Try fruit flies, I left a chunk of banana in my FBTs enclosure and they eat the flies that are attracted to the fruit. or leave a culture jar in the enclosure with holes big enough for the flies to leave, but small enough the toads can't get in.. of course you need a fly proof lid then.
OR let a few adult crix lay eggs in some soil, then put the soil container in the enclosure and let the crix hatch out in the enclosure with the toads.
or try tiny mealies.
mine eat fish flakes sometimes.. and earthworms parts too..
here's a great site I found http://www.amphibian.co.uk/bombina.html
it says During the active period these toads will continually capture a devour many invertebrates ranging from crickets, waxworm, earthworms, mealworms and sweepings (brushing a butterfly net through a meadow or grassy area will trap a wide range of insects). The secret is to provide a wide range of foods which should be occasionally supplemented with a special herptile multivitamin powder. I like to occasionally give my own specimens strips of raw fish (white baits) and lean red meat or chopped pink mice offered on tweezers. Adult B.maxima will even take whole pink mice but this should not exclusively form the diet.

Hey,
The tads will eat "tadpole bites" you can get them at petsmart. I think they also eat the algae pellets for plecos. You can get those at a big als live sharks near you and the froglets will eat "mayflies" not sure if you heard of those but mine liked them. They also ate 2 week old crickets.
Thanks,
Ben

You could sell them if you don't want to keep them all, or breed feeder bugs on a massive scale. :p I'm looking for some fire bellies, so if you decide to sell them let me know. :)

You actually counted the egg mass?
Holy.
Oliverian - Do you live in BC?? I live in montreal!!! It will be difficult to sell some to you :D:D
Jeff - They were not layed in a mass. They were layed one by one on vegetation and rocks in the water.

Lol, oops. I didn't realize you were in montreal. Aren't toad eggs usually laid in strings? ~TR~
