Deli cup hole punch??

Not sure if this question should be here or in housing - but figured people with hatchlings might see it here - I am wondering if there is a brand of hole punch that anyone can recommend to punch small holes in deli cups for hatchlings.

My regular hole punch makes a hole that is bigger than I like and I have seen containers at shows with smaller holes. I have been using a drill, but it is tedious - would need a punch that is longer than usual and capable of going over the lip of the cup as well.

If anyone knows a brand name or where this could be purchased, would appreciate the help. Thanks,

Hi Mary, I have such a hole-punch & yes they are very handy. I beleive it is what they call an 1/8" punch (standard is 1/4). I picked mine up at a "Scrapbookers" store or try craft stores. I looked at Staples etc. lots & could never find one, only stars & moons etc. Mine was made by McGill Co. - Marengo, Ill. USA. Hope you can get one because they make delicup holes much easier, you can do it while watching TV etc. no hasssles. Mark

I use the second thing. But when you have a whole bunch to do it takes awhile. I had to do it 2 weeks ago to 11 containers each containing approx. 15 holes and it took 1 1/2 hours. But i also have a really old one. On top of that i had to deal with little plastic strings. So now i'm goint to go out and see if i can find a hole punch. (great idea)

Thanks Mark - I will look for that one. I knew there had to be some easy way and like the idea of doing it watching TV. I hate the smell of the soldering iron melting plastic and the drill was killing me on such little containers.

I kind of like the idea of one with stars or moons though - too cute,

Any office-supply place will sell at least 4 different sizes of hole punches. Just pick yer poison and go from there!!

This is my favorite! Its like 5 BUCKS! How can you go wrong? I can punch 6 holes in 30 containers in like 15 minutes!! Easy.

Staples, Office Depot, Monks, etc etc etc will all have a MYRIAD of choices.

Good luck finding any in stock at the Staples or any other office supplly around here (Calgary) anyway, LOL! Beleive it or not I looked for a long time before I found one at the craft store. I was just about to special order one when the girl let me know the store around the corner had them. Mine cost $12, did I get took or what LOL. I also hate the smell of burning plastic & any "work" that you can do while sitting watching TV without having any power required is the way to go, LOL. I had been using a scribe in the past, its quiet, doesn't smell or require power, but takes forever to do. Some of us guys like drills because we are guys & drills are power tools heh heh & people like Ryan like the soldering irons because he likes to burn things HMMM FIRE! LOL Mark
P.S. reason for holes is because snakes like to breathe too!

Thanks for the online site Jeff - I have looked at the various office supply places here and special ordering may be the way to go. I have the $2 version but it makes holes that are too big, but I notice the site lists one that has 1/8 inch holes so that might work. These punches also have a very narrow separation at the end and a short distance from the hinge to the hole that makes it hard to put the holes lower on the tub and to get over the lip of the tub without damaging it - I know - picky, picky, picky!!

Mark - forgive my ignorance, but what is a scribe? - the only kind I know of wouldn't make holes in plastic tubs. I suspect it would be more work than a drill anyway -

I have the $5 one and I can put holes anywhere on my deli cups. I ship baby Hondurans, baby Rainbows, and baby Carpets and the holes are no where too big.

A scribe is a metal tool used for marking it etc. & resembles a small "ice pick", basically a small metal pokey thing, like a big pin. Good for delicups, no good for tubs. Probably the same thing you are thinking of. Mark
