My burm has gotten either stronger, smarter, or the biggest fear- both. Her tank lid slides out toward you and holds in place pretty tightly. Yesterday my fiancé found her half way out of her tank. She has learned to push her body up on the top lid just right so it moves over a little so she can get out and explore. We now have to have a bungee cord over the top to help keep it from sliding. Smart little bugger, too bad we crashed her party plans.

Have your herps found a clever way to open their enclosures?

i had a baby corn snake escape.....and i still can't figure it out, she was with another who is a bit bigger, and one day she was not there, we did find her a few days later she had gone from the top floor, thru the main floor and we found her in the basement. i know this corn is not stronge enough to lift the lid at all....so its still a mystery

All my enclosures are completely escape-proof. No matter how adept your snake is at opening things, it should never be able to open them. If they are sliding doors, then they have sliding glass locks on them (key and all), if they are hinged doors, then they have several secure latches, if they are rubbermaids in a rack - well a properly built rack is escape proof without any help, if it they are rubbermaids alone, then they have whatever locking device is best suited (I use both S-hooks and binder clips). Snakes can contort into way thats you wouldnt believe they can fit through spaces you wouldn't imagine they could. Anything that slides must be secured, snakes learn how to slide those open in a jiffy. They are the Houdinis of the animal world ;)

One of our burms likes to escape (well both of them, but the smaller is better at it). It's always been from human error though the last time it was a little different, he was able to manage to squeeze through the gap between the glass which my finger doesn't fit through... Guess he needs to eat more. :P

my corn has escaped 3 times (though hasn't in last year since I've remedied the situation). each time he ended up in my slipper. so now I keep a slipper in my room on the baseboard at all times...just in case.

I have a baby cornsnake that escaped 2 days ago. I never noticed he had gotten out till I found him on top of my mice aquarium. He managed to escape and was attracted by the mouse smell. I was walking in and saw him on top trying to figure out how to get in the aquarium for a snack.

My kingsnake escaped the first day I had him and two other times besides that. He was so small he could wedge his body in the groove where the tops sits and shove himself out. He is a little too big to do it now and he is in a secure cage now. We named him Houdini the first day we had him. They are natural born escape artists.

With our old tank set ups it was human error which allowed our snakes to sneak out. We always found them within the same room. But I will never forget the first time our Ball Python escaped. In the middle of the night while sleeping I woke to find something by my neck. I kept quickly touching it (I'll admit, I was afraid to just get a good grab/feel of what was there in the darkness) and I smacked my fiance to turn on the light. My ball python had snuck out of her tank and worked her way over a mine field and up the side of the bed to curl up next to my neck to fall asleep. Other than her tank she found the next warm thing to roll up next to. Cute, but it scared the bejeez out of me at the time!

My male Ball Python,Osiris, escaped, and after 2 days of searching I found him curled up on the portable stereo I have on the top of my beds' headboard! My Mexican Black Kingsnake, Spook, also escaped and she was found 3 days later, on the bottom shelf of her tank stand, curled up in a hide we had taken out of her tank the day before she escaped! Needless to say, we put that hide back in her tank!
There are few things worse than realizing that one of your snakes in loose, and few things better than finding them again..healthy and whole!

My Burm, Bandula, once opened his own bedroom door! I suspect he had been hanging on the door knob and somehow turned it. (We now have padlocks). Anyhow, my boyfriend gets up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and all I hear is a bloodcurdling scream! I walked in, and there in the bathtub sat Bandula; apparently he wanted a soak! He hasn't escaped since, but let me tell you my boyfriend looks everywhere in the bathroom when he goes now!

My tanks have never had an escapee..well yet anyways..lol.....I have front sliders that overlap 2 inches and have a hole drilled into the overlap..I have a pin that pops into the hole at the top and bottom.....I can't see them pulling the pins out/in...

i removed a snake from the prison i work at and brought her home, she went straight into a sterilite tub. this was on the fourth. We went out shot off some fire works came home and the snake was gone. thats been three weeks ago

I had a Savannah get out he was gone for two week. I looked all over for him then one day my dog started to go nut's at his food dish. I looked in the dish and there was my savannah trying to bite the dog when it was trying to eat. My dog now has a new food dish because he is scared to eat out of the old one....lol

I have never had a escapee but No enclosure is escape proof snakes are known to pop out vents and bend vent louvers My friend was telling me about how his scrub managed to bust out one of the melimine wall's of his cage (another reason melimine sucks)
