Hi all! Well I thought I had better share with y'all a picture of "Dually" the 2-headed Lavender Cal-King. The little bugger hatched last weekend out of an egg that I had "pipped". I didn't think it would make it the day, but its a week later & the little one is due to shed soon. I'm not sure if it will be able to eat or not, but we'll worry about that when the time comes. As long as it keeps acting "normal" which it more or less does except that it doesn't seem to "flick" it's tounges, it will be given a chance. It reacts to what it sees & when touched. It even struck at me once! I think that both heads seem to want to control the bodies movements though & it is not very gracefull. Anyhow here is "DUALLY" the doubleheader!

wow, the heads are attached really far up, all the pics of 2 headers ive seen are attached more at the neck. i guess Dually has no worry about one head biting the other then. good luck with him

that two headed turtle looks cool
Wow! Thats really unfathomable. Really shows the drawbacks of selective inbreeding though :(

That's an interesting point Zoe :) For the most part, inbreeding has certainly played a role in the development of such a colour phase in that Cal King, but this incomplete separation is evident in strongly genetically diverse populations. I doubt that conjoined twins in human populations are the result of inbreeding. Reptiles don't seem to experience inbreeding depression as other animals do, a selective advantage, I suppose, to being confined in small ranges.
I think it is just a developmental anomaly. But it's anyone's guess!

Wow...I've never seen a condition like that before. I'm glad you gave it a chance though, hopefully it will feed well.

WoH ! That's really weird!
I know it might sound really dumb, but I'd be curious to know which head will eat .. do you have to feed both ? loll!! The question was asked above, I'd be curious to see the answer!

Some two headed snakes eat equally well from both heads, phantom.

dont many of them have trouble breathing because they only have the one useable lung? the ones that have more independent heads (attached at the neck), doesnt one sometimes attack the other and then pretty much it suffocated itself?

Hi all. Well she's not too interested in pinkies at this point (live or dead), but all is still well. She has a brother that has still not eaten either & I'm not too worried yet as both keep pooping. Big yolkbellies LOL I'm not sure if she can open her mouth(s) though? I guess we'll see in time. Mark I.

I am very interested in what they share in the head/mouth area. Let us know if she can open her mouth, and how far developed she is inside. (whether she shares much or not) Absolutely fascinating.

i have seen snakes with 2 heads before but how common are they??? also do they have any value if they eat, shed ex. properly?
one bicephical? corn lived 11 years, but they don't have much value
Mark I'll trade you $5 for Dually!!

Actually folks if it starts feeding etc. on it's own, she will be worth alot. One Japanese Zoo & one in Sweden (I think?) pay large sums for doubleheaded creatures. I heard the Japanese Zoo is paying out as much as $10,000 U.S.D. for such specimens. Might just be rumours, but if I can get this girl established I'll definitely be checking into it more in depth. She could be worth a small mint??? Mark

Well a friend & I verified that yes both her mouths can open so I may pop the head of a pinkie into one of em later & see how it goes? Mark I.

Yes if she does in fact become established, she will be worth her weight in gold. So how was the inside of the mouths? Do they each have their own set of everything or do they share certain features? Pics Mark, we wanna see pics!!!
And good luck with the feeding, keeping all our tails and paws crossed over here at my place.

What an amazing creature!! I can't wait to hear how she does & where she goes.
I'm not sure what i would do with a double header. thing must be confused on why it can't move sometimes
nice!
neat looking too
I hope that it eats for you!
Is it just the pic, or is one head sort of 'stubbier' than the other?
Still, very cool... good luck getting it established.

This is a weird double header, the 2 heads have one throat. Maybe it's difficult when it comes time for dinner...
I presume (from what i see) that the right head (left at the photo) is the dominant. Good luck. Hope it makes it through.
If it lives i wouldn't sell it, keep it for good luck :D

Geez man, that's wild!
Hate to keep repeating everyone, but keep us updated...
LOL hope they figure out how to get along better >( It'll be interesting to know how their first feeding attempt goes, please keep us posted!
Hey Mark,
Got any updates for us on this little guy...?
