Lengths of 16'(200lbs.) Sizes over 20' may occur. Keeper must expect an animal that will grow large. Males tend to be smaller growing, often under 12' as adults. May live 25+ years in captivity.
They need tropical temperature & humidity: 80-90 F
Variable in personality, some are timid where others are aggressive and prone to biting. (mostly prone to biting)

They defenetly don't make great pets .. tamed Rocks are extremelly rare .. mine is a cb and vicious as hell!!!! There great feeders though (in my oppinion) ..
Expect a huge snake that can and will try to kill you once full grown .. make sure you really know what you are doing before purchasing one .. Unless its for breeding- I would lean towards getting a male too ..
My female went fom a 4 foot girl to a 7 feet 5 inch in about 5 month .. and has bitten me probably over 100 times since then!
There amazing animals to work with although a tamed Rock is REALLY hard to come opun .... I've never seen one!
Take care

Then you really aren't ready for one. Try a dwarf retic or something. Big Rocks can be scary man. Real scary.
I agree with Jeff comment ..
U could just type ROCK PYTHON on yaho and get tons of care sheets..
Make sure u know what ure doing cause in a couple of years you might regret getting him and he probably end up a an other animal past around, from houses to houses..
just my opinion,

Sorry guys im not a big snake guy, but i believe Jeff S showed me some pictures on a guys site of one of those eating an antelope, i couldnt believe how big the thing was. Sorry i don't remember the site, Im sure Jeff will know if you ask him. I remember him telling me that they were very dangerous, sorry i could be wrong, but ask. Even if your not interested any more, the pics were unbelieveable. I think this one was more than twenty feet. It is a definate must see.

I have a pair of rocks and let me tell you they are no picnic. The female is 20' and 220lbs and not nice at all. The male is about 14' and 120lbs and is just as cranky. Their cage is 12'x4'x4'. The need it warm and deciently humid.

I have two male African Rock Pythons...because they were way too aggressive for their previous owners (two seperate households, by the way). The one is not so bad, can be handled when needed, but certianly let's you know that he does not appreciate being disturbed. The other one will try to kill you EVERY single time you go into his cage for ANYTHING. Just changing his water is an adventure!!
So, all I can say is be aware of what you may be getting yourself into with AfRocks.

I myself have a small Rock and since I've had him he never ever strikes @ me. He'll hiss lightly for a 1/2 a second and then he's fine. When I bought him he was in a clutch and some of his brothers and sisters had a very nasty temperament!

It would be really cool to have a tame rock python, but when u buy one dont expect to be able to tame it out, they are just pissy snakes by nature. I personaly dont ever seeing myslef get one or ever wanting to get one. rock pythons in a way are like hot snakes, great too look at, great to study, extemely interesting and facinating anamimals, but a bi*ch to handle, cage matinace and pretty much everything else that involves contact.

From what I've read/heard, many rock pythons are the opposite of other snakes temperament-wise in that many of them are nice as babies, and get more and more aggressive as they get older. If you have a tame baby rock, don't bank on it staying that way.

That is totally true! My friend purchased a baby rock python six months ago and had it delivered to my house. As soon as I took it out of the bag it struck at me. (which i can see happening out of fear). The first few months she seemed to be pretty easy to handle, but now she is over 4 ft and can get quite nasty. I was just over his house the other day, I took her out and she hissed like normal, but as soon as I put her back in her tank..she was striking at me like mad. I mean banging her face against the glass even after I stepped back a few feet. (pfff..and he thinks im gonna help him when she reaches 18 ft...lol) Actually, I will help, I wouldnt want to see anyone try to care for an 18 ft afrock alone.
After having personal experiences with this species of snake and reading a ton of information on them. I would advise against getting one of these snakes, unless you fully know what your getting into and are prepared for the challenge ahead.

Rocks are notoriously cranky. Tame rocks are not unheard of, but they are scarce. Even a reasonably co-operative rock must be treated with due respect. We always have at least 2 other people to assist with the tamest of our giant pythons, but the rock uses a trap box every time, regardless of her disposition on any given day. She is temper-mental (yes, 2 words!) and will snap at the slightest provocation, so we just do not take any chances with her. The time to realize the potential they have to kill you is not while they are in the process of doing so.
