Hey Everyone,
Don't know how many of you have ever dealt with venemous species of snakes before but I was just wondering if anyone knows of any laws/regulations regarding keeping venemous species. My original career goal was to have a venemous snake "farm" to produce antivenom but have chosen another career path but am still interested in keeping some species for a hobby.
Please let me know if you know of any restrictions or if you yourself keep venomous species I would love to hear from you!

it is all regulated at the municipality level
you have to check the specific by-laws of your city because it varies greatly from area to area

I think you made a wise choice not going into venom production. I think there are enough people producing it right now. I can't help you as far as laws in Canada, but check out the venomous forum for information about hots.

I know everyone is amazed this post is so short. I have not had coffee yet ;)

I keep venomous snakes....... The restrictions depend on where you live...... Where I live you need a permit to keep them...... One thing you should know is to never consider a venomous snake a "pet"....... They are not pets and should never be treated as such....... If you want to keep hots, I suggest you get with someone that has been keeping for a long time to show you the ropes........ There is alot more to keeping hots then just putting them in a tank........ Lots of handling tecniques and tricks that you need to learn...... You need to be taught the proper way to handle these creatures not the dare devil way....... So pick your mentor wisely..... I would go with someone like BWSmith....... He is a safty nut like myself...... :)
