Hey I have been giving some consideration to getting a boa. I haven't decided yet what kind. I have it narrowed down to either a columbian or a brb. I keep burms and a blood. So keeping large constrictors is not a problem. Anyone have any suggestions between the two or pros and cons of both.
Thanks

well i absolutely love columbians, good temperment, usually always eat, and i myself have never had a problem with them.
IMO i would go with a columbian.

and i have also owned a brazilian, but columbians are deff my fav.

My personal preference would have to BRB. Colombians are great as well.

BRB
Pros
-Voracious feeders
-Easy to acclimate to handling, closest any species can get to being "guaranteed tame"
-Super flashy appearance
Cons
-Nippy babies
-May not be able to leave them alone if you go on a trip for as long as a BCI due to humidity requirements

Colombian
Pros
-ease of care
Cons
-Variable temperament
-Somewhat plain looking

Both are great, I wouldn't trade mine for the world, but if I had to choose jsut one it would probably be Rainbows :) They are also a lot more active when being held than most boids, and they have quite a grip on you! As long as you keep the temps low and the humidity high they make wonderful and rewarding captives to keep. But that's jsut my preference, go with whatever appeals to you the most... or better yet get both, because if you watn both you will probably end up getting both eventually ;)

I probably will end up getting both eventually. I almost got a rainbow once before. The guy I got my borneo from also had a rainbow. But I saw my borneo and couldn't say no. The last show I went to I saw a bunch of nice columbians and was kind of hooked. The hardest part of the whole thing is convincing my wife to let me have another one.

If i were you i would get both!
Get a colombian if you want something that grows to be at a fair size, and a brb if you want something colourful but somewhat small. :D

Thanks,
Ben

From a purely ascetic standpoint, I *love* BRBs. Their patterns and irridescence are incredibly beautiful.

I'm a huge fan of both, but currently I own a common boa. If you're already accomplished with Burms, maybe you should go with the BRB, because I think you'll find them to be a very different experience. A female boa would probably be just like your burms in hubandry, size, temperment, etc. I'm all for new experiences.

Yeah I'd like to try something new. I've never owned a boa of any kind before. But a friend had a nice columbian a few years ago and she was great to work with. I think the BRBs are beautiful snakes and would be a challenge to keep.

Not so much a challenge... just a different kind of reward. :)

BRB are not challenging snakes to keep. They are very easy to keep, and super hardy, just as long as their temps are kept cool and their humidity is high. Both are very easily acheived provided they are housed in the proper enclosures... aquariums are not suitable!
