Watering plants

Does anyone know if it's good to water plants with aquarium water? I'm thinking maybe it has some healthy stuff in the water. It's for a venus fly trap. I'm also planning on growing a pineapple plant. A friend of mine grew a pineapple plant from a pineapple so I'm going to ask him how he did it. If anyone wants to grow their own then let me know and I'll tell you how once he shows me, that's if he was successful.

Hey, If you give how I will try!! I tried with lemon and 3 little thing started coming out of the seed. Can't wait to know what it will turn out to be.

For the venus fly trap. It is very recommended that you water it with pure water. I wouldn't recommended with anyother water because the minerals in it could cause the death of the plant.

I havent got a clue about the venus fly trap, but i did hear something about growing a pineapple. My boss told me, that when cut of the top of the pineapple and place it on some soil, it will grow. And you can eat the rest of the pineapple. Great stuff, fresh pineapple hmmmmmmmm.
In some places in Brasil (or something) you can just grab a new pineapple and take it with you, for free. But you have to leave the top at the side of the road, cause the grow new pineapple plants with those.
Im not sure if it works, but you can always try :D

Thats exactly what you do with pinapple. Keep in mind that its a bromeliad, so DONT soak the bottom or it will just rot. It will do great if you mist its leaves 1-3 times daily. Root growth is quite slow, and small. Godd light speeds it up also. It is also a slow grower, at least at first, so dont throw it out thinking its not doing anything. Last but not least, if the tips of the leaves are going brown, mist leaves more. Hope it helps.

We were advised to water our venus trap with rainwater, as long as it wasnt acid rain. I don't know if that helps. Good luck with your plants. :) ~TR~

Any water that has no chems would be ideal. In the wild they live in mossy/marshy types of habitats. One would think aquarium water is good. But think about all the chems added. PH +/- chlorine killer, the crap they put in the food etc... That, in my opinion, is why aquarium water is unsuitable for carn's. But i use it for all my other plants and they grow super fast.

For the pinapple I will try but i don't know were to cut?? Just leaves or should I leave a little bit of the fruit???

leave 1-2" of fruit. Dont pick/pull it away though, it will rot away on its own (the fruit part).

I have doen it many times, and doing it that way has worked the best for me. Dont know what you mean by what plant it makes, its a pineapple... Normal looking spiny bromeliad (with fruit eventually).

You put the fruit part in the soil??

about half way down the fruit (i usually sink it down 1"). You will probably notice that it starts to smell and rot. I just leave it so the roots are not damaged when trying to pull it out.

I've heard that aquarium water makes plants grow like wild. I know absolutely nothing about carnivorous plants however, what is the difference in their watering requirements?

most carn's are bog type dwellers. They really dont soak up much thru roots. Dont quote me but i believe they are just more sensitive to chems (like lichens and such). They certainly, for the most part, cant take much abuse (or teasing to see the traps close :)).

Thanks for clearing it up :) The only type of carnivorous plant I know of are fly traps. What other types are there?

There is so many!!!! Drosera, dionee, nephentes, saracinae......
I got 3 drosera capensis and 1 dionee. I'm looking for a nephentes

do a search. There are some HUGE dealers in the states that have many hundreds of species, and hybrids. You have probably heard of pitcher plants? TONS of them....

Poor deprived me... lol only carnivorous plant I have heard of was the fly trap :( You would assume the 4 years of horticulture class under my belt we would've covered carnviorous plants, guess not! :rolleyes::confused: I'd like to get in to them, but no go with my cat... I already have to borrow space for my velvet plant... lol and I would probably kill them anyways... my dear velvet plant is the only one that sticks it out with me :p
