I got a juvenile albino about 20 days ago about 3.5 inches long. It ate about 20 meal worms a day but recently stopped eating and resting a lot more. It's housed w/ a calm regular leo a little bit larger. I've heard of leos going on hunger strikes out of no where but i noticed a regurgitated mealworm and a black spot on her underside. the gecko's about 4 inches long now and its tail is still pretty skinny.. neone know what happened?

I don't know much about it but I read that black spots could mean crypto. Agian I don't know much but you might want to look that up and see.

First off, I'd separate those 2 leos asap -- it's probably too late, but if one is sick you don't want them living together. You should always quarantine new additions for at LEAST 30 days (with at least 1 clean fecal) before you introduce them to your established collection.
Personally, I'd take that leo into a vet with a fecal sample asap... if it's something serious, the sooner you start treating it, the more likely your leo is to make it. A black area on the abdomen can sometimes be a sign of crypto, but isn't always...

Like I said, take your leo to a vet asap! And separate those 2... if you're lucky, whatever the new one has hasn't been passed on to your older leo... but chances are pretty good that it has.

:( Crypto is something you do not want to take lightly, it can and does infect humans and all other animals.. If you have another leo in with it more than likely it does have the crypto if that isndeed what the other one has... The symtoms you discribe do sound like crypto to me.. I just went thru a rescue case that had crypto and found out where the leo first was purchased and then went straight to the dealer as well... Its a good thing i run a tight quarenteen here and it was not alowed no wheres near any other animals or in any room by other animals.. everything it came in contact with was distroyed and the leo put down and disposed of properly.. It can infect thru more than just fecal.. Heres few links explaining it... Fattails are very suseptable as well...

Neo,

Don't get too scared, my reg. female did this to me in the spring too. She stoped eating, regurged 3 mealies and wouldnt eat for 1 month or more and now shes as healthy as my 2 other leos.

Do get a fecal done asap but dont panic before you get the results.

i could understand if my gecko was only doing the things you described, but there's that huge black spot. Obviously it's not a pattern cause she's albino. the spot covers 1/3 of the area between the base of the tail and its neck. there's 2 distinct dots located randomly within the the black spot. It looks so painful

Get her to a vet NOW! Who cares if your parents don't like you spending too much money? If you can 'afford' to quarentine new additions perhaps you should re-think aquiring them in the first place. The only ones who will suffer are your geckos. That last discription really did not sound great and s/he needs to be checked out. If it is crypto it's best to put the gecko down humanely and let the breeder or pet srore know as soon as possible what happened. Good luck and keep us updated.

well i havent taken her to the doc yet but she's been on a diet of only mealies. me and adam bought some pin heads today and i tried them out. she ate 6.. all i bought (calcium dusted of course). we're gonna get some more tomarrow. so it turns out she didnt lose her appetite.. just changed it. it makes me feel better cause isnt loss of appetite a symptom of crypto? i left some mealies in there just in case. i'm still gonna take her to doc though

Look, you still need to take her to the doc, and quickly. Some leos get tired of eating the same things over and over again. You probably really like pizza, but if you ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday you'd get tired of it too! Remember to keep their diets varied. Let us know how the doc's visit goes!

GRR... I don't care if you have the money or not, your little leo is sick and you won't bring her to the vet just because you don't have "a lot of money". And how much deos it cost to quarantine a leo? 5$ for a rubbermaid, 2 cents for paper towel, 5$ for hide/water dish and 20$ to get a fecal done. Wow a whole $30 and two scents!

Neo, sorry to rag on you, but if you can't pay to bring your leo to the vet, then you shouldn't be keeping leos at all.

And like Samba said, just because she is eating it doesn't mean she isn't sick.

Get her to the vet!

Good Luck with your leo but im a bit dissapointed that you didnt quartine. If you aquire a new herp, quartine it. If you cant do this then dont buy another herp. You're only harming the animals you have, not to mention then money you spent will be a waste.
Good Luck

We know you care, you just have to take responsibility! The geckos depend on you for EVERYTHING! Just take your geckos to the vet, and quarentine them now... even though it's a little late it's the best you can do, ok? Let us know how everything goes!

ok so on a diet of now crickets coated in a parasite supplament i found it not fully digested. thats the feeding update.. here's the vet update. I took her in.. (s)he's 4 inches or so and weighs.. 0.5 gms... pretty tiny. turns out that "dark spot" is just her liver. She's albino so her skin is a lil more transparent. I guess i only noticed it when she was fasting and got skinnier. the vet says she's ok and i should soak her in warm water like every day for an hour or so to get her well hydrated. The undigested fecal was examined and nothing found but the fecal being most recent was still pretty old so they want me to drop a fresh one off at the vet when i get one. for the meantime i'm perfectly calm now and its good to hear shes in pretty good condition considering. i'm gonna give her a wax worm or something as soon as the stores restock them. thx for the support..

as for my other leos.. neo has grown tremendously and is lazy. changing colors, developing really cool canary-yellow color to surround some of the black dots on his head and his bands are fading and his tail is developing a yellow line thing.. i cant wait for him to shed again .. doek is stable in terms of skin change, and some of trinity's patterns are turning green!! it's so cool cause she's a jungle so it like matches her name :P. :)
