I have a baby ball python that doesn't seem active at all, i've read that that is a sign that everything is okay, but all he does is stay in his log, He only comes out when i lift up the log to see how he is doing. His temps are 96 on the hot and 88 on the cool during the day and 85 at night, his humidity is between 50 and 60, i give him a daily soaking because he is in shed phase, and he is eating and deficating regularly, I am just wondering if he should be out more or if he's fine and I am over reacting, thanks for any advice!!

Mine are pretty lazy unless they are hungary.

Same here, mine barely move out of their hides unless they are hungry. Then they cruise nightly until fed. During the day they still stay pretty immobile.

Sounds like everything is fine. Being nocturnal, they stay hidden all day anyway. Mine is active when I take her out of her enclosure in the evenings to roam around. Other than that, the only time I see her active in her cage is at feeding time or if I go look at her in the wee hours when all the lights are out. So as long as he is eating, pooping and shedding regularly I wouldn't worry.

It seems like those temps are a little too hot, am I wrong? The hot side should rarely get over 95, with the preferred temperature around 90, and the cool side should be 85ish. Is the log on the hot side or the cool side? If it's on the hot side and he's there all day, then I guess it can't be too bad.
edit--also, lifting up his hiding log has got to stress him out...he's probably there to be secretive. try situating it so you can peek in from the side without lifting the top and disturbing him.

mine hide all day, then once the lights are out it's time to paint the "town" red. They cruise for a while, then go back to their hides.
Those temps are too warm. The ideal range for balls is 80-90, though you can go as low as 78 on the cool side, and as high as 95 for the basking spot. You should occassionally catch your ball cruising around at night, or if he is hungry. They normally hide out for a few days while they digest their meals, but come out to explore when they don't have sucha full belly.

My bp is very very active, sometimes he even sticks his head out of his hide! :)

I don't think he is hungry cos he does it after eating too, he stares at Akasha when she is being awake and doing a few laps around her viv.
Mine is lazy during the day too. He moves around more at night of course. But about the only time he is active during the day is when he is hungry.

I have been told MANY different temp ranges for my ball python that i am sooooo confused. So what is the correct temp range for my ball??? Well, the other day i go upstairs to check on Monty and he's got his hide pushed out and i noticed some white papery stuff and then i realized he was shedding!! Yeay, he's so pertty after a shed. Is it okay to help the shed along or let him do it naturaly?
