Zoo Meds Bearded dragon food

Hi i have a juvi beardie and he eat's real good but i am trying to get him to eat the Zoo Med's juvenile bearded dragon food and all he wants to do is play in it he might eat the odd bit when i mix it up in his veggies but will not touch it any other time unless he is playing in it what i want to know is does he need this stuff or will he be fine with out it?

Some one told me that if you soak it in apple sauce they go grazy for it. Eventually they will get used to the food and you wont have to soak it in the sauce!

You definately dont have to feed it to them. I have never fed it to mine and they are good and healthy! They have a diet of greens, fruit, and various insects.

i use the bearded dragon pellets. I have used them since my 2 were a month old. My 2 are real silly the boy will only eat the green and if i put any other color in there he runs through and stomps all the pellets and my girl will only eat the green and yellow ones. I don't know any tricks to get them to eat them since mine always have, but i have heard of putting juice in with the pellets. (makes it more appealing to them)

ZooMed pellets aren't very well accepted by beardies in my experience, but that's okay by me because the nutrition isn't very good. RepCal are far more like what they should be eating, most other brands have way too much grain, not enough animal or vegetable foods. They contain too many goitrogens and not enough minerals.

The apple juice trick might work, but frankly you'd be better off giving juice, greens and feeder insects and using the pellets to gutload the bugs.

I didn't even notice that they said zoo med. I use the rep-cal ones. i don't really pay attention to the name i just know what the bag looks like and where they keep it at the petstore.

I use T-Rex brand pellets and my oldest dragon(8 months) is just now starting to eat them. He likes them but prefers crickets and veggies. :D

I have my Adult male on Rep-Cal Adult Bearded Dragon food. Im Trying to get my female on it, shes getting there. What i do is mix it in the food dish with the vegies and such and slowly i decrease the amount of veggies and increase the amount of pellets. Today I think ill try that apple juice thing. I've never head that before:D
