Well i no it sound's crule but if he is a puppy you shoud take him out every 30 minutes and at night put him into the crate to get him to not go nut's in the crate put a alarm clock the type you wind up so he can hear the ticking and a old sweater of your's in the crate that will make him think that there is some one there with him as for letting you no when he has to go out by taken him out every 30 minutes he will get use to you taken him out and will let you no when it is time to go out
hope this helps
good luck and i look foward to seeing some pic's i also have a Huskey

Hey!!
thank for the advice!!...
But if any1 else have any other ways????...Ill crate train him if not
T.P
Start by teaching your puppy to go outside right away. If you get him used to going on newspaper, you'll have to get him to switch later on and husky pees and poops get big fast!!!
The trick to house training is like Brandon says, you have to bring your puppy outside VERY often! Especially at certain "key" times: when you get up, after eating, anytime it's been 1 to 2 hours. Bring some treats with you so when he goes outside you can give him one. Also and most importantly, you praise your puppy lots when he goes in the right place.
Only "scold" your puppy if you catch him doing his business inside, if you find it later then don't bother as the dog will have no clue why you're upset.
Proper training when young is very important, especially with a larger breed like a husky. I strongly suggest you look up some puppy training internet sites or get a good book or two.

Congrats on the new puppy!!! I love huskies :D
If you want to train him using the crate method, your "crate" has to be just slightly larger than the dog. Too much space and the training is completely moot, ESPECIALLY in house training! A dog will usually not pee or poo when in a small area, they don't want to be stuck too close to it so that's what helps them teach them to hold it.
As for bringing him outside to pee and poo, it will be frustrating as you've already noticed!!! Understand one thing, do not go back inside with your puppy until he does something outside at key times (after meals, waking up, bedtime). If you give up too quick, he'll wait and do it inside!!! The first few days are the hardest cause your puppy hasn't got a clue of what you expect from him. Once he starts catching on it'll be easier until he reaches his "teen" period :)
Invest a few dollars in dog training books. Dogs for dummies is actually very good!

LOL!...the thing is it was raining the past 2 days.....!!!!!...i tried taking him to a bust stop(sheltred)..no luck..fed him 1 h ago!..n took him out for 55min!!! all he did was pee...NO POOO!!!...i swear he only wants to go poo inside!!!!!!!!!lol
Oh god!!!...cant wait till i get him trained!!
T.P
Fan, every single time your puppy naps (you'l find them doing it often) take them out immediatly when it wakes up. After doing it's "business" outside, be sure to praise him emmencly for what he did. even offer a treat. This way you reward him for doing something good. When you catch him pooping in the house be sure to scold him. Do not hit the animal!!! (not that you would, but some people do..) Give a firm NO! and take him outside to resume his business.
Huskys have incredibly weak digestive tracts so make sure you feed it a less harsh meal.. Lamb and Rice is usually used for huskys as it is far easier on their digestive tracts. it's possible he just can't hold it. You'l probably notice his poop is runny for awhile...... that is if you have him on other foods. Good luck, keep us updated!

Yep yesterday the poo was really runny!!
But i reda that is gonna happen if u switch foods..
It gotten alttle firmer...
I got him to go outside!!!!!!!!!....
but about 30min after his nap...there was another!!!!!..he peed n pooed again also!!!! INSIDE!!!!!...
ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
well im planning to take him out sit for a longthime..untill he poos from 2mro..if it nice out..it was hard 2day cuz it was raining!
T.P
Will
hes a pup right now, so theres no better time TO switch his foods.! get him on something less harsh, like Iams Lamb and rice, or eukanuba lamb and rice. (eukanuba is actually better)
Keep the puppy on GOOD large breed puppy food till he's 3-6 months then switch him to something like Wellness, Solid Gold, or Nature's Recipe. Join a Canine forum. Talk to your vet. Read.
Congrats on the new puppy! He sounds beautiful! :)
All of the above mentioned advice is great. Crate training them is very important, and can be both stressful on both parties but is necessary in the long run and ocne they are used to it its no sweat. You never know when dogs may need to be crated, such as vetrinary situations, or even when you go out you don't want to have a loose puppy in your hous, you may come home to not much left! To touch on all of the above mentioned for toilet training, when you are taking your puppy to do his business, use the terms you would if he was trained. Just before you take him you can say something like "Do you have to go outside?" then take him and if there is a designated area (we have a boxed off area) say something like "Go to your box! Go to your box!..." and then as V.hb mentioned, when he does his deed praise him and give him a treat even.

It's great that he's starting to go outside :) Keep at it and don't get discouraged (trust me there will be plenty of times! lol), your new puppy will be housetrained well in just a few weeks and you won't have to worry about that anymore.
Linds brought up a very good point to housetraining (and any training for that matter) is to attach a "command" word or phrase. Everytime you go out with your pooch and expect him to do his business, say the command a few times and very happily and enthusiasticly when he does it outside, kinda like goofy baby talk. Dogs love to please and he will associate the proper behavior with the command soon too. When all is done, all you'll have to do is tell him his command and he'll go! Both my dogs are trained this way and it works on every dog, even the difficult ones.
What's really important in house training ESPECIALLY with a very young puppy is that they have very small bladders and very little control over their bodies. They are learning their bodies and it's functions just like a human baby so they NEED your tolerance and patience during this training period. You cannot expect a puppy under 6 months of age to be 100% housetrained. It can happen and it's great when it does but you have to think for your dog's potty needs for the next 3-4 months, get used to it! :D
I cannot stress enough that taking a puppy outside in the proper area for him to go is very very important. As you've already noticed, they can be ready to go again in just minutes!!! Those are especially at the key times mentioned earlier: morning/long time before he went, and usually has a drink when they get up, after meals/full stomach pushing on bladder and digestive tract making stuff wanna come out!!! Go at least twice in those times!!! Do come back in between for a few minutes so he starts making the correlation of being outside.
Crate training is usually quite simple. The time you use it most is at night, other wise it's for corrections. When he's gone potty for the last time and you're going to bed, put him in the crate. Have a blanket and toy in there so he's comfy. If he cries you have to tough it out and let him until he stops. If it's really driving you nuts, after 1-2 hours take him out, go outside for a few minutes and put him back. Do not give him any attention other than to bring him out, talk to him gently and praise heavily if he goes potty. Then it's time to go back to bed and that's it.
In the morning, get ready to take him out before you take him out of the crate. It should be the first thing after you're up and you've gone. Take him directly outside and wait till he goes, praise praise praise when he does. Go back in, do your stuff whatever and take him out again in 20-30 min. Wait till he goes. After that he should be good for an hour or two!!! :)
If he messes up, that's when the crate is really nice. That is his punishment. Scold him for his booboo and put him in the cage tying another command to it like "go to your cage". Leave him in there 20 min and completely ignore him.
In time accidents will be less and less frequent and you will have a dog that pisses and shits on command and goes to his cage when naughty on command!

i have 2 huskies...a red pied and a silver one, i love them a great deal, they have many wonderful attributes.....like their independent nature and love of people. bear in mind that huskies may seem "stubborn" at times, but this is due to the way they were bred, when in the off season these animals were turned loose to fend for themselves, including finding their own food, they had to think for themselves, they became a nomadic animal...which means they can be an animal that chooses not to listen if they want to, and they like to run and run, its not impossible but it is hard to teach a husky off lead......off lead for a husky is usually not a good idea.....i don't trust mine 100% at all, sometimes he listens and sometimes he does what he wants...lol....also because of there love of people and being bred to work with people huskies make lousy guard dogs.....but on the other hand most people do not know this and can be intimidated by their size. both my huskies are crate trained, its called their 'bed', they feel safe in there, they can eat in peace and not be bothered by any animal or person in there, and nobody can get them in trouble there.....i found they were quite messy as puppies.....they didn't improve until they got a bit older....but thats a puppy for you, they also have to learn to control it.
what did you name your husky??
my male is named Akule (ah-koo-lay) sioux name meaning alert baby(silver)
my female is Shumanitutanka - Shumani for short - another native word meaning wolf (red pied)
i started off with one, and was addicted and got another...they are awesome dogs and very intelligent. enjoy yours
Huskies are adorable, that was my first choice when we went to the pound, cept the one I chose was a cat killer so we didn't get him, we got a shepherd instead (more on that later). he's not very well trained either, only sits for a treat, but we're working on him.

that is not uncommon for huskies tho....because of their nomadic history of fending for themselves its more then natural to chase anything that runs away and kill it....just like a hunt. i was told this by the breeder, they will chase down and kill it be it rabbit or cat....they don't know, its their instincts

Hey!
WOW..this is alot of work!!.....
i just set up the crate.....n leave it open???.....HE wont go inside..n when i force him in he comes out...if i close it he FREAKS....N I MEAN FREAKS!!!! barrking whining jumping(he might hurt him self)
what do I do?
on average how many time does a dog poo a day
T.P
Have you looked up any dog and puppy sites? Look up Husky groups and clubs as well, there are tons of really informative sites out there to help you along with your puppy training.
When using the crate, yes your must close the dog inside. Of course he will not like it! That's why it's an effective punishment!!! This is where you have to be strong and hold your end. If your pooch is supposed to be in there for 20 min, then put him in for 20 and IGNORE him. Unless there is something wrong with the crate, he won't be able to hurt himself.
Puppys go poo quite often and it can vary by size, type of food, etc... Generally a min. of 2 up to 6 a day!!! Be ready!!!

The breeder you got your puppy from should be able to answer all your questions. Any good breeder will give you a lifetime of support, all you have to do is ask.
Keep reading other sites as well, not any one is perfect! And everyone has their way of training.
The crate is not meant to be a torture device :) It's a really good place for your pup to be when you're pissed! lol In many cases my dog was safer in his cage than not!!! hahaha Before someone thinks I abuse my dogs, I've never hit any of my animals but I will voice my displeasure very loudly and clearly! They don't want to stay very close to me when I'm pissed.
Once my dog got used to his crate (about a week at most) training became much easier. He went to his cage most of the time by himself and has always used it at other times to just lie down or chew a bone. So even if it used as a correction tool, your dog will appreciate that it's his corner and place and most likely will seek it out himself in time.
The big key is once you have put your dog in the crate you have to completely ignore him. Start by short sessions and work your way up to longer ones.

Coming from a husky owner...........GET RID OF HIM NOW!!! LOL I'm joking! I'm joking!
Seriously though, huskies are very demanding, stubborn (b*stards) dogs. Especially if he's your first dog, I would enroll in puppy training as soon as he had his shots. And you say that he's a trouble maker already. Watch for ANY aggression now. It's not cute and it will turn into a huge problem later if not taken care of right away.
I got my male Siberian husky when he was 9 weeks old. I knew the night I brought him home that he was going to be a problem. My husband was playing with him using a raw hide bone. When my husband reached to take it, he bared his teeth and growled. Not being educated about huskies or dogs in general, I didn't get any puppy training. He has only gotten more aggressive as he has gotten older. I was bit pretty bad - probably should have had stitches - just over a year ago. My husband was bit shortly after I was.
I don't have the heart to put him to sleep (even though that is what everyone says I should do) and I can't give him away. I'm pregnant and so (Arma)Geddon lives permanently outside in a kennel. I don't even attempt to pet him anymore. He bared his teeth at me last time I went out to see him.
I don't mean to be a downer about your new puppy. I hope he is a much better dog than what I have...just watch for the signs.
Good luck. I can't wait to see his picture. They really are beautiful dogs.
Email me if you have any questions.
~Nellie
PS It took me a full year to house break Geddon. Of course, I was working so he was home alone all day.
Oh, two more things....like you want to hear anything more from me! :)
Huskies also get bored really really easily.
Geddon scratched and ate THRU a WALL when he was home alone....several times! Everytime I would fix it, he would rip it up again! I'm not quite sure of any suggestions to keep him occupied. Nothing seemed to work with Geddon. He hated Nylabones (sp?). Ate pig ears and raw hide bones within minutes. And would rip the stuffing out of anything stuffed.
And Huskies RUN!!! And Run and Run!!!
My backyard isn't fenced, so this might not be as big of a problem for you. On the few occasions where Geddon got loose (broke a leash, etc) it took us hours to catch him. The second he realized he was free..........he was gone!!! Just don't trust him to stay in the yard or anything. Chances are, he won't.
Again, good luck. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey!
My pus great...Hes just teething now....But he 7 weeks old..
When u play fight with him...ge shoves my hand in his mouth but he dosent even close it.......So its not even a little play nip...LOL!......My only problem is potty training him..I can tell hes smart already...He learned to stay off the couth in 2 days!!!!!....!
Hes great!.
T.P
You think potty training is tough? Ha! Wait till your dog hits 5-8 months of age when he starts his "teens" :P You'll be pulling your hair out I swear!!! At that age, dogs especially larger breeds or artic ones love to test the boundaries and your patience. At this stage is when the hierarchy of the pack is truly formed and he will try to be the alpha dog at all costs. Get ready for extreme patience requirements!!!
Dogs that have a high energy output absolutely need to have it excercised out. If not, this energy almost always turns into destructive behavior. As your puppy gets older and has more exercise requirements, prepare yourself to allow your dog 2 full hours of hard play and running. If not, get ready to face the consquences! Another great way to avoid any undesirable behavior is to obediance train your dog and get him to "work" for you. An energetic dog who has his mind kept busy and working for you prevents bad behavior and reinforced your dominance in the pack. Smart dogs especially need lots of training and you should factor in at least 30 min. of training a day split into 2 sessions of 15 min.
Your pup can be the best pet you've ever had or the worst terror! It really depends on how much time you invest in your dog. The more you do, the more you will reap :)
Pixie

That's good! I remember Geddon being a huge nipper when he was teething. Just playing usually drew blood.
I just went back and read all of the other posts and there is tons of good potty training info there. But, once again, Geddon challenged EVERYTHING. He would pee and poop in his crate. Infact, I think that is wear we preferred to go.
I'm telling you, this dog is insane!!!
I was laughing so hard reading how you say that this is tons of work.....it is! TONS!!!! I didn't sleep thru the night for the first year of Geddon's life. He had me up every TWO hours. He would howl (like a fire engine, for those of you who have never heard a husky howl!!!!) for hours on end. It was worse than having a baby!!!

Sounds like she's doing good. Keep up the good work. Be consistent!
One nice thing you will notice about huskies: They don't have that "dog smell". You can imagine my surprise when I adopted a hound after owning Geddon for a year. Smelly!!! I would say you could just bathe her when she looks or smells dirty. I don't think there is a set time frame.
I don't have a specific shampoo to suggest, but you may want to read the bottle if you get a "flea" shampoo. I think that the puppy should be a certain age b/f you use those. Another thing that could be causing her itching is if you have a collar on her. If she isn't used to it, it may be irritating her.
Have you taken her to the vet yet? I'm sure your vet will check her for fleas and be able to suggest something for her. I get this liquid from the vet that you put b/t the shoulder blades once a month. I can't remember the name of it right now. Once again, there may be an age limit though.
As far as dog breath: First, I have to admit that I love puppy breath (notice I said "Puppy" breath, not "dog" breath! LOL). Pet stores carry dog mints. They are kinda cute: shaped like little dog bones and everything. I give them to my dog as treats.
Hope this helps!

N any hints on getting him leach trained??..He just stops n sits down if i try to make him follow me...N a yank of the leach ist working at all:(
N i think he already knows What "no " means!!!!1
WOW., !!!!!!!!
I will be getting a DIGI cam real soon...n Ill post a pic!
T.P
HA HA HA HA HA HA LOL LOL
In all the rest of my posts, I forgot to mention that Geddon has always gotten up at 5:30 AM exactly. Even during the time changes, Geddon would start howling at 5:30!
I'm so glad to hear that you have talked with a trainer! And it sounds like you are on the road to being the Alpha around your house.
Do you happen to have a "choke chain" for him when he is on the leash? If not, that would probably be a big help. Read up on the correct way to use it first! Another thing you may want to try is to leave the leash on him and let him run around the house with it ~ not with a choke chain though!!! That way he will get used to having a leash on. When he starts to get older and stronger and starts pretending that you are a snow sled, you may want to try a "pinch" collar. They look barbaric (sp?), but if used correctly it will be your best friend!!!
Hurry up with that picture!
