i was reading the coluber forum recently, and came accross a post suggesting a hide on the warm side and the cool side. my hide is half over the heat pad, and half off, sooooooo my question is, should i put another hide on the cool side? (rhymes)

i have a branch in the tank, and the part on the floor has an elevated wide base, and he likes to curl up under there (hide box, (kinda))
thanx-jacob

For a ball python, yes, you need a hide on each side of the tank. That way, it won't have to choose between being warm/cool or safe.

i have a hide on the cool side and the hot side for my bp, plus a fake bush in the middle that she uses for a hide. I made the second hide out of a quarter of a clamp box, though, rather than buying it.

If you use hides (its recommended if you are using glass tanks, etc, or have an extremely shy animal- they seem to be fine in rubbermaid racks and similar housing without them I find), you should give your snake equal opportunity to both warmth and cool. If you only provide one, your snake be choose the safety of a hide over his comfortable temperature.

i understand, but he only goes in the hide at night, he usually climbs, or wedges himself underneath the base of the stick during the day.
