so, Im sure alot of you have seen my thread about my tokay having what looks like an abscess in his mouth, or some sort of unhealed wound. If you havent, long story short, he got bit on his bottom lip by another Tokay when I went to buy him.

So anyway, today I went to pick him up, rub his belly (he really likes that) and try and keep the wound in his mouth cleaned by using some diluted hydrogen peroxide (I have a vets appointment wed)

So as im doing that, I see what i think is a tooth sticking out of the inflamed area he got bit. On further inspection, I realize its his jawbone. I feel so bad for the little guy :( So he is going to the vet first thing monday morning. I wish i could give him some of my painkillers or something. I just want him to feel better. This hurts sooooo bad.

Can anyone please tell me anything positive? Is this fixable? Can he live a normal life? Can the vet fix him up? I dont want to have to have him put to sleep.

If this helps I once saw a croc with the bottem jaw broken right in half, and it lived. Like it was 2 pieces. I don't know if this makes you feel better or not.

I just finnished that about 4 months ago,my Female Tokays jaw was actually broken in HALF like Rebecca said. It took 5 months to heal but I did it. You will have to help her eat for every meal. Get a pair of tweezers, and mash up a cricket and put it down her throat, by instinct she will swallow it. It took a while but in the end she lived and was quite happy, she even got her bite back;)

If you want any tips just ask me

A skilled vet can often wire a broken jaw into place or use a special type of plastic to mold a new one. If the break isn't too severe all that isn't even necessary. Reptiles have amazing healing powers and he might do just fine.

The most important thing is monitoring him for any signs of infection and making sure he gets plenty of calcium.

well the good news, is he is definately gonna get the help he needs. I had made an appointment for a herp vet for wed (this was when i just thought it was an abscess). Sat night, I spoke to the manager of petco, and even though its past the 14 day garuntee period, since the injury happened at the store, they are gonna refund my money, take him to the same vet I would have taken him to, flip the bill for all the medical needs, and then sell him back to me. They made me really happy. Plus the day shift that works there is really good. They have a pretty big lizard collection. The one guy had over 40 geckos at one point. The other girl I trust very much, she is extremely knowledgable. So I trust that they are gonna do everything in their power to heal my little friend.

Wow, it's impressive that the store is willing to do all that, so many just take the animal back and let it die.
