recently since i discovered mites on my ball i moved him into a smaller enclosure so that I can disinfect the tank.

The thing is the small enclosure is a plastic circular tank that is about 1 foot in diameter, so its difficult to ahve a range of differnt temperatures while using a heating mat under the tank.

what i do is i try to keep the ball between 88-92 is this ok??

because its possible for me to keep it at 90 all the time.
thanks

You cant keep him at one temp all the time. Buy a sweater box size rubbermaid and put him in that. Put the heat pad at one end and you'll be fine.

If you are to house your BP at a constant temp for a while I would suggest 85-86°F. Also, if you can place a hide that your snake can climb onto to get away from the belly heat, it would be good.

AS a side note when treating for mite it's best to keep the snake at a constant temperature of about 87...The reason I say this is that mite are arachnids and like herps they are cold blooded(well thier blood is call hemolymph) So if you keep them at a higher temp they go through thier life cycle faster so it is easier to get ride of them. Thier life cycle is about 2 weeks if I remeber correctly.

If you keep your ball at a constant temp whether it be high or low you risk greater problems then mites. If you are trying to fight mites a rubbermaid is best because they are so easy to clean. You can clean them every day no problem.

alright thanks guys
i think im just going to put him in the tank and take the extra effort to clean it often.

I've had the provent a mite in there for about 3 weeks now. I think the problem should be gone cause I don't see any mites. Does anyone know of a sure way to know if they're all gone???

The cycle can last in excess of one month if conditions are right.
