I am looking around and getting ready to buid a cage for my sav because he is growing very quickly!
i am going to make a cage 8x4x3 which i think is big enough?
i want some opinions on what wood to use, i think i will use 4x8 sheets of sandiply hardwood plywood three fourths of an inch thick,it is very smooth,i will stain it and coat it with a layer of(i forget what it is called, its like a sealent stuff.)Does that sound good or do some other people have other suggestions?

I wasn't going to reply to this but what the heck:

I'd go with thicker wood myself... savs are strong buggers. But 3/4 might be enough!

Make sure its a water based sealent.

3/4 should be plenty strong. I'd use melamine paint or epoxy paint for waterproofing (and smell proofing... it's not all about the water, ya know!)

Your going to need to waterproof it, so polyurethanes will not do the trick. They only resist moisture, which doesn't do a whole lot in an enclosure filled with a few feet of dirt. I would recommend going with epoxy resin, or perhaps a liner of sorts. I'm sure the other monitor keepers will have better input on how they waterproof their enclosures so I will leave that to them ;)
