Ive been using a heat pad under a glass tank to heat my brizilian rainbow boa. I know that glass tanks are not ideal for brbs but right now he is young and later I am planning on getting something else. I place my thermometer just above the bedding and the hot end stays right at 85 degrees. the ? i have is I know right where the heat pad touches the glass it has to be hotter then 85 degrees. I Know its not hot enough to burn him but Im still worried that right above the glass the temp is to hot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Glass is fine for a BRB... you won't find anything that holds moisture better than glass! :) How far above 85 is it? Up to 90 should be fine for any boa. Of course 85 is ideal.

HEY!

THATS FINE DUN WORRY!!!!

Glass is fine....~the only reason ppl say "its not the best idea" is because the lid for glass...The mesh/screen stuff.....Just make ur own top...take some melamine make 1 small vent...N THERE PRESTO!!! U HAVE the same comfort level as a custom made wooden enclosure.......
Oooops forget--Put background on the sides n back....

Does your snake burrown underneath the substrate? If your snake goes directly to the bottom, I would suggest lowering the temp setting on your heat pad.

Same custom level eh? I beg to differ. Glass tanks are dreath traps for humidity loving species such as rainbows. Tanks have no cross ventilation, but its fine enough as long as you leave the entire one side open. Well to maintain humidity you have to cover part of the top, by doing that you block off any airflow. It is impossible to maintain adequate airflow and humidity at the same time. You end up with right humidity, but with stagnant air, no good to be breaathing the same air over and over, as well as its a prime environment for mold spores to grow in  Glass is not fine.

Gonna have to disgree here as well. All boas are not the same, they have different requirements from species to species. They cannot all tolerate the same temperatures. Try housing an emerald at 90... it will be puking everywhere. :medpuke:
