what would you say to a mixture of bed a beast and playsand???

It doesn't matter much if sand is used alone or when mixed with another substrate, it still tongue-flicks up much too easily. There's less of a risk of acute impaction with the mixture, but the same risk of chronic impaction, which is the more dangerous as it's harder to detect.
