One of my Rootbeer corns died last night.

She was in the process of laying her first clutch. Two eggs came out fine and the third was half way out for quite a while. She died in her nestbox this morning, with the third egg still half out.

Can anyone give me some advice as to why this happened..everything seemed to be going fine.

thanks guys

Maybe she was too young or dehydrated to get the ggs out.

Did you cut the other eggs out or did you leave them in her?

Are the 3 eggs viable (fertile)??

Jeff,
I did cut the eggs out, but unfortunately they arent doing too well.
The two eggs she did get out are looking ok, but I dont have any expectations.

thanks for the help

Well this happened to an egg bound.
This might be a cause to several factors,
1) She was too young to be bred
2) Not enough excercise
3) Too Skinny when being bred and egg laying takes a huge amount of energy
4) Egg too big

If she was at the right size, I would say that this happened because of pure bad luck. Really sorry to hear this. Hope that everything will turn out okay with her eggs then.

Hope that everything will turn out find for you and hope that the eggs will pimp out soon!

Good Luck!

First of I'm very sorry for your loss. no about she was more than likly probably egg bound. Acouple of reasons might of been that she just wasn't strong enough. It happens to humans as well, Has your corn ever experinced health problems that could of weeknd her state? Maybe like Jeff said she was just too young?
Best of luck in the future
