does it only like me

I have a new baby ball he hasnt bit ,e yat but yesterday the first time it was held by another person then the guy at the pet store he bit the holy crap out of my mom. She wasnt that mad cuz it didnt her but she was suprised beacuase i know theres nothing wrong with her cuz she holds all the other ones all the time.
Is there something wrong with my mom or it only likes me?

did she handle a food item? Or maybe it was her perfume, or even handling meat (like ham, chicken, or beef, making sandwiches with deli meats...etc...etc...) did you just feed him? Or he could have been in a grumpy mood......or did he smell blood???

no we always wash are hands before and handle are animals and just to make sure i let her handle the big wc and he was just fine.

snakes dont "like" people, they just get used to us. I just wanted to clarify that.

Its simple, if u dont smell like food, it wont bite. Or the snake was just trying to protect itself.

Snakes do not possess the frontal lobe capacity required for liking or disliking. They are a creature of instinct, that's it that's all. If someone is getting bit it's because they are doing something they shouldn't. Snakes are wild animals regardless of whether or not they are born into captivity or not. They cannot be domesticated. Getting bit comes with the territory. To reiterate, it has absolutely nothing to do with the notion of "like".

Just a side note...and I'm going to use the terms like and dislike even though snakes don't like or dislike anyone.

My Spotted Python Montey highly dislikes my dad. It's something about his scent or something about his general attitude but whenever my dad even enters my room, Montey gets VERY hostile. She'll lash at the glass. She just really doesn't like him.

I told him she just has good taste in humans...

My kingsnake seems to dislike my sister because my kingsnake will seem to get pissed off when she is around, but this is because my sister is nervous and somewhat dislikes my snake so my kingnsnake senses that nervousness and gets very defensive, or at least that's my guess on why she does it.

I don't think that they like or dislike. That is always going to someone's opion on that because we can not get into a snakes brain and answer that. And just because a snake does not have the frontal lobe capacity for like and dislike does not mean that they can not like and dislike. A snakes brain is probably not like a human brain, therefore does not mean that the capacity for like and dislike is going to be in the frontal lobe.......:) Just my 2 cents!

Snakes have very deep nerve endings, unlike ours which are close to the surface. This is why snakes will literally cook themselves on light bulbs, they don't feel themselves getting burned until it is too late. Its quite unlikely your snake reacted as it did due to the temperature of your mothers hands. It could have been the way she was handling it, or a smell in the air, or something set off a defense mechanism and franky scared the crap out of the little guy. There are a million reasons that could have caused your snake to react as it did.

To touch on the above: I believe a snake CAN develop preferences, but it is a hormonal preference. Not the same preferences as we get along with people because we like or dislike them as a peron, their habits, etc. My observations backup these beliefs. Everyone has their individual scents they give off, pheremones and other scents. I've had snakes that seemed to prefer males over females, and vice versa.
