Such a beautiful snake. One of the only reasons I like emeralds is because of their white markings. They really stand out, yours has great ones! Great photo as well!

Thanks Folks!
She is a real sweetheart too. If she grows any more in girth, she should be ready for breeding next year. IF I don't move around when she is on the jungle-gym she always tries to crawl onto me.
The only time I worry about possibly getting bitten is when it's chow time. Sometimes she almost knocks the tongs out of my hands when she strikes. LOL

Wow, another docile Emerald! The breeder that RedDragon and I buy most f our stuff from has a docile one too. This is giving me hope of one day owning an ETB that won't try to take my damn face off. :)

That's awesome that she's a docile one too! Maybe I may just luck out and get a friendly ETB! :)

Ok I don't get it? LOL I can handle all of our emeralds with out the fear of being bitten. The only times I have been tagged is when I either startled them or when helping with a bad shed. I've handled fresh imports at broker's facilities and shows and not been tagged. Are there that many folks that have "prone to bite" emeralds or is it just the "arboreal persona" in general? :( :( :(

Craig - The more I talk to Corallus owners, the more I'm beginning to see that it's about a 50/50 split. The breeder I buy most of my stuff from has 6 ETBs - only one of which can be handled. The rest of them will take your hand off and not lose sleep over it.

But, that can be said about bloods, white-lips, macklotts, and a million other snakes that are prone to serious attitude problems, but I guarantee you'll find people even on here who have docile ones. So, maybe ETB's do have a worse reputation than they have earned....

Most of those species earned those reputations back in the day when they were not being bred in captivity, and what was available were cantankerous WC adults (I would be grumpy too given the circumstances!). Now that these species are being bred in captivity, we are seeing these snakes in a whole new light :)

They look great Craig! How many Amazon Basins are in your collection?
Incitus, my Suriname Emarald was calm too. It's my understanding that almost all Amazon Basins are calm. It's the wild caught imports that people tend to report about being aggressive. Amazon Tree Boas now the majority of them are nuts, some CBB ones calm down though.
Cheers,
Trevor

Hey Trevor,
We have 3.5 basins at this time. One of the females has all the signs that she is gravid, but she is so big that it really doesn't show. We weren't sure with her last time until there were 7 neos crawling on the floor of her cage. LOL Guess we'll find out about mid-November.

I'd be willing to bet that a WC corn snake would be prone to aggression too... but my point is, even long lineages of CB snakes still have that natural aggression. But, I also theorize that the more generations we breed in captivity, the more likely we can "breed out" that natural aggression. Just a theory...
