Supers??!! Oh man Vanan. That's At LEAST 18 months away. You're killing me man! :D

Snakemann, the female was just a normal. She was actually a baby I produced in 1996 and this was her first clutch of eggs (at age 7!!). Crazy eh?

Thanks all.

6 eggs in total. Seems to be the magic number so far this year.

Nice pastel Jeffery! :D

What took the female so long to produce?

I just never paid much attention to her. I tried her in 2001 and she didn't want to breed with anything. She would shake her tail like a rattler (colubrid style) and just flee from any male. Last year I didn't want to produce a ton of normals, so I only bred 2 females. This year I got the Pastel big enough to breed, so I was all over her (actually, he was!) for breeding this year. And it paid off (well, hopefully).

just wondering how hard it is to get the eggs from the mother can you handle them during there glavid period and if so are them more aggresive

Jeff_Favelle

Yeah, they're aggressive. Some more than others. But these things are tiny. I mean, they are 5 feet long and maybe 2-5 lbs. Its not really a problem.

Congrats Jeff! :D Best of luck with the eggs! I'm not that familiar with pastel genetics -- do you actually have a chance of producing some pastel babies out of a pastel/normal pairing? Or will the babies be somewhere in between the 2...

The Pastel gene in Ball Pythons in what is called an incomplete dominant/co-dominant trait. On paper, a Pastel to a normal breeding would yeild 50% of the clutch normals and 50% of the clutch Pastels.

That in mind, a Pastel Ball Python is like a visible het, two copies of the Pastel gene (ie; Pastel to Pastel breeding) make Super Pastels which is the complete gene. Ball python genetics are actually kinda neat.....not everything is a simple recessive and there are a lot of incomplete dominant morphs.

Yes, exactly what Kendrick said.

Snakemann87, when your BP's are old enough, just post your questions here in the "Python regius" forum and we will all be glad to answer them man!! For sure.

LOL -- you call it neat -- I call it confusing!! Hehe :) I'm just getting my leo genetics all figured out, and now there's all this other stuff to confuse me again ;) Ah well, I'll just have to hit the genetics books again... hehe...

Well then Jeff... since there's a chance of you getting some pastels out of this, my fingers are crossed for you! :D
