Avatar help please

Hi i wanted to no how to size one of my pic's to use for my Avatar and how to put name's on the Avatar the only thing i know how to do on my computer is turn it on and that's about it...lol
or if some one could size the pic i want for me that would be great

Burmese python - if you have a bunch of images that you'd like to have as an avatar I can do a showcase thing for ya - like my avatar.
