View Full Version : strange fecies
my young burm (about 3 feet long) ate about 4 days ago and started his shed last night but didn't go poop yet. This morning, when i went to see if the shed was done, he had finished his shed and left a nasty thing in the tank. The mouse was half digested/half intact. The head and body and gone and kinda resemble stool, but you can clearly see the tail and feet still. Maybe he didn't poop it out and maybe he threw it up? I don't know if this is healthy. I can take a pic if anyone is unsure what i could be talking about.
** Sorry i used words such as 'poop'. :) I couldn't think of a nice verb to be used instead.
It can be either way when you get those weird half digested freaky food items. The only way you can tell is by smell, it either smells rank or REALLY PUTRID, the putrid one being a regurg. I have seen the same thing come out both ways with very little difference. Hope i've helped.
it's incredibly putrid. He ate 2 mice that day and the other mouse come out as the usual yellow and white 'rockish' fecies, so i figured this was regurg. You've seen it happen though? Is it cause of shedding like i said or it just a belly thing that we will never understand?
Sounds like regurg to me!
What are his temps/humidity at? Does he have constant access to water?
In a couple days feed him a small mouse, preferably soaked (to give him back the water he puked up).
Also, defecate is a good verb :)
ah defecate! didn't even think about that :)
his temp is 91 on warm side and 83 on "cool" side. His humidity is at about 80% and there's a large bowl for him.
The husbandry sounds right. I think you should stick to smaller meals for him for now and I also think you should soak the food item for extra water for him. If he keps regurging you should definitely take him to a qualified herp vet if you can.
