Why does my cat like bleach??

I recently bleached a pair of pants and when they were almost dry I brought them in from the balcony and put them on the couch. When my got near she went NUTS, rubbing her head on my pants, biting them, stroking them with her paws... anyone know why??

Most likely it was an odd new scent, so it was putting its odor on the pants to mark her territory.
But who knows why cats do anything they do? :)

My cat will chew on my hair after I go swimming in the pool it loves bleach too I guess..... Since it doesnt do that to me after a shower

No she wasn't marking her territory, she was going ecstatic for about an hour. I was watching a movie and until about halfway through she was rubbing all over it.

That is a way of marking their territory, by getting their scent and hair all over the object(s).
Mammals usually have more than one way of marking their territories, scent glands, other areas that exude body odors and fluids, not just by urinating, which is what many think is the only way to mark the territory.

no, she does it on my hands too. if i've been cleaning she'll lick and bite my hands. It's really funny.

She probably just likes the smell. Who knows why! My other theory is that you've bleached out all the kitty smell and she has to put it back on. My dog Shiba likes to "clean" my face after I've showered. It's as if I'm "dirty" because I don't have any of her saliva left on me! Who knows. ;)

Got to go with the general concensus here, Zoe. My old male stands over anything cleaned with strong cleansers; such as bleach; & just drools on it. No urinating or biting or anything from him ..... just a good old-fashioned dose of saliva !! Then presto !! All remarked !!

When I wash my kitchen floor with any kind of pine cleaner, my female cat does the same thing. She's been doing it since she was a kitten. but it's only when I use a pine cleaner.

Don't know what it is with cats and bleach but I have to keep my cats away any time I use it because they will fight to get into it. But then most cats like the taste of anti freeze too (which most of you probably know is fatal to them if ingested, so keep them away!). Guess you have to be a cat to understand the appeal. They problably think we're weird for liking the taste of orange juice:-)

Dogs like anti freeze too :( but that stuff has a sweet taste. I don't think bleach does!

As for orange juice... I hate it. Blerh!

Most small animals do... we had it out with the neighbours a whiles ago for leaving a dish out because they didn't want any animals other than the fish in their pond stepping on their precious, immaculately kept landscape :mad: S*%# like that makes me absolutely sick!

Ewwwww... my kitty is pretty picky... won't eat fish (except tuna juice but that doesnt count)... will eat most other meats, no candy and most breads/crackers, but he loves pickle brine and pickles! It's nasty! Seasoned vinegar....yummy :rolleyes:

I think cats are just wierd like that. My big chubby kitty likes green peas and carrots. He'll eat anything i offer him, even like bread and stuff. If he sees me eating it, he wants some, too. Never heard of a cat eating bleach before, thats something new.

heh one of my cats likes peas (frozen) and loves clams, fish, and most left overs. another won't eat clams or any left overs (not even milk).
