I was talking to my friend today and she told me that out of 12 eggs she got from her albino to albino breeding she got 2 snows. Now how did those albinos become hets? like what had their parents been bred too. My friend also tells me that her pair is father and daughter but she isn't 100% sure on that.

Thanks in advance

They both would have had to have been amel and anery A double hets. Or she was mistaking the adults for albinos when they were really snows.

If the amels she has where both from an amelxsnow pairing then they would both be het for snow. Their genotype would be Rrbb. If you pair Rrbb with Rrbb you will still get all amels because the red colour gene is dominant. Like Zoe said maybe one was not an amel. Just work out the pendant square. It’s easy when dealing with simple receive traits.

both amels would have to be het anery A to produce any snows in F1

No,BOTH adluts are amel...it isn't difficult to differ red from white.

I dont think this is F1 babies, cause she did say it is possible it is father and daughter breeding.
So father would have to been het already. So i'm still lost on this. I do see where are you are comming from but I don't think the answer has been totally found yet.

Do you know what the mother was?
Well, here's a hypothetical situation:
The male is an amel het anery a, and the mother's mother is amel het anery A, or normal het amel. Together they make a variety of babies and one of them which is an Amel het Anery A is re-bred to the original male to produce a couple Snows.
(Amel het anery x amel het anery will produce 1/4 snow)

Thank you for stating the obvious Zoe. I already knew the parents of the snows were amel het anery A. The question was... How did they become hets? I am curious as to how an amel is het Anery.

My theory is like yours Zoe, I believe that a double het for snow was bred back to an amel and then possibly that made some of the offspring het for snow aswell but also amel. So then those amels were bred together or to another pair of the same thing to make more amel het for snow.

I don;t think it works out quite right but man im confused.

Aaron those babies are so cute. I was there when they were hatching and they are gorgeous...the snows look as tho they may turn a different color.
