View Full Version : The worst Day of my life....

Had to vent and share with someone now that I have stopped crying and can type properly. Last night was the worst night of my life. Around 8pm, I was cleaning herps and doing the normal around the house and my dogs (staffies) started making a huge ruckus outside in their run. Their run is off my patio and they have access to the house through a patio door in my bedroom as well, but when I called them to come in, they didn't come. I knew something was wrong so I immediately ran for the bedroom door to take a look. I was horrified at what I saw. My two over 100lb each dogs falling down, drooling, tripping over their own feet. I ran out to Keigan, (my boy) who seemed obviously the worst, and it was the worst thing I have ever gone through. I scooped up one dog at a time (yes little me carried them to the truck) By the time I got down to the vets, Rogue (my girl) was too starting to convulse and shake uncontrolably. At this time I was crying so badly it was hard to see what was going on.
The vet showed up (after hours emergency) and helped me in with the dogs. I was holding Keigan, and he went absolutely crazy. Thrashing around, foaming at the mouth, trying to get up but couldnt. It was the worst thing I had to sit and watch. After 10 minutes of this, Keigan thrashed real bad, bit me hard in the arm, let out this blood curdling howl/cry, and he died.
The vet was working on my female at that time pumping her full of charcoal and stuff to make her vomit. He came in and I was just sitting there holding Keigan, covered in everything, and he was like oh no.
After everything had settled down and Rogue was hooked up to IV and sedated, blood work showed that someone felt that they had the need to poison the dogs. These two are the most passive, laid back, non aggressive staffies you will ever meet.
For the life of me, I can't figure out who, or why someone would ever do this to an animal.
After a night of crying, and now lost one of my best friends, I am back at home. I was with Keigan every day full time since he was just a pup. He would have been 3 this fall. Rogue will hopefully come home this afternoon, we shall see.
Well,, thats it, I just had to share. I have lost all faith and trust in the human race, the thought that there are cruel, heartless people out there that would destroy life like this.
I just wanted to say rest in peace Keigan. :( I am going to cry more now.

Beth, I don't know what to say... I'm absolutely shocked by this. I can't beleive the mentality of people who would do something like that. You can only hope the authorities will catch them, because if I did... I'd do the same damn thing to them.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. Here's to hoping that Rogue pulls through today.

Hang in there.

Beth i am so sorry about keigan and i hope rouge gets better soon. I really hope you find the a@@*#%$ who did this. rouge is in my prayers.

I too was in the same place you were a about 6 years ago. I had a black lab, nicest dog ever, and she rarely ever barked. She was in my fenced in back yard. And somebody in the neighborhood poisened her with anti-freeze. It was a terrible site to see. This happend 2 times. then finally someone kidnapped her and i called every where looking to see if they had her (dogpounds) . No place had her. Then finally after about 4 months went by i found out that one of the pounds had her and they were told not to let the owner know because the dog had been abused. She was put to sleep. I found out this happend to 3 more people in my area. This highly pissed me off that someone had the nerve to do this just because they didn't like animals. ( we never found out who)

My condolences Beth. Maybe the dogs ate something that had some nasty things on it. Once my pup ate some nasty rotten food he found at the cottage, he couldn't walk for like 2 days...

Beth,

I am so very sorry to hear of this tragedy, and can only imagine the pain your are feeling. I met one of your dogs last year at the Richmond show, and I agree that your dogs are friendly, well socialized, mild mannered dogs. My most sincere sympathy on your loss.

RIP Keigan ~ gone but not forgotten

My sincerest condolences - I only hope despite your grief, that you have been able to contact the police and initiate an investigation and that the clinic has retained material to support toxicology testing to confirm the diagnosis of poisoning. It is a difficult investigation to pursue and prove anything, but it is definately worth it. I know of cases in Sask and Alberta where convictions have resulted. Prayers are with you and wishes that the other two are home soon and fully recovered.

Thank you to all for your condolences. I have gotten the toxscreen back, being high amounts of wolfbaine/antifreeze, mixed with our record temperature heat yesterday which intensified the reactions. Rogue is holding her own, the kids however, are not. They grew up with these dogs.
Jen, Keigan was the dog you met last year at the show. He would never hurt a fly, but would give his life for the family. Go figure. He did.

Wow Thats sick someone felt the need to murder your dogs.... It could quite likely have been someone who wanted to rob your home later that night.

My friends dad works for the Rcmp and he was telling me about what burglers usually do before they try to rob you usually they find dogs dead in the backyard. Its brutal they cant help you either but its pretty likely they wont be able to find the murder because they have no leads or suspects. they cant do jack the law works against it self in so many ways.

I feel sorry for you and your family I hope Rouge gets better soon Karma with catch up with the murderer if the law doesnt

Beth, I am so sorry that someone (whom I can't even refer to as a human) would poison your dogs. I know what you are going through, and I hope that things will only get better for you. Just reading your story made me cry too, because I thought of my first dog, Whitney, who my had put down without my prior knowledge or consent. (The dog was old and feeble, but I wanted to be there for her when she passed). I hope that you have filed a police report and find out the nasty @$$hole that did this. I don't know what else to say, but my prayers are with you.

If you ever find out who the scumbag that is resonsible is, you can put me at the top of the list of people that will give him/her what they have coming & then some. This post makes me sick to my stomach, it makes me loose what little faith I have left in man. So, so sorry for you & your family. Mark I.

Oh my god Beth!!!!!!! I am so sorry that you lost your baby cause of some stupid idiot. Why on earth would anyone want to hurt them? He was the sweetest dog too. I know how you feel cause we lost our dog just before Christmas to cancer. It took one week for the symptoms to lead to death, and there was never any chance that we could have saved him. Now i am crying. I wish I knew what to say to make you feel better. I just can;t get over how cruel people can really be. I feel like getting sick! I hope Rogue pulls through 100% and that you can find the person responsible. Can't believe the police - 'better things to do'. Makes me even sicker! A kid steals a candy bar and off to jail he goes, someone blatantly kills a defensless animal and it's no big deal. BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!! Again I am so sorry Beth. I hope you and your family feel better very, very soon. TTYL

Hi Beth,

Sorry to hear of your loss, that's truly tragic. You have our support and sympathy.

Blind, unbridled rage is the dominant emotion I experience when these attacks take place. We've had several incidents in the last couple of years in Calgary involving serial dog poisoners. From what we've seen here, the best way to catch these people is to inform the neighborhood of what's taken place and watch for the culprits try the same on another dog.

I personally feel that the perpetrators should be staked to the ground and a pack of ravenous hyenas turned on them.

Beth, I am so sorry to hear about this terrible accident :(. I just want to wish you comfort and peace and I hope everything is well with you, and when the time is right you can get another puppy. Take your time to mourn and get things out.
I know exactly how it feels to lose a best friend, as I lost mine 2 years ago. My poor Baby dog drowned in our pool in below zero degree weather and I jumped in to rescure her. Which didn't help at all because she was already gone :(. I'm so sorry Beth.

Beth, Sheila and I extend our condolances to you and your family. Rage and sadness is what I feel, I can't imagine what you must be going through.

Medicine Hat has a problem with dogs being poisoned, some dog hater has been getting away with it for years. Can't wait until they find that *******, I'll take out my frustrations on him for the fun of it.

Good news and bad. Rogue's fever has broke and she is now alert and wanting to move around. The bad news, this has more than likely affected her liver, maybe other organs. We won't know till further blood testing has been taken.
Also, to update the situation, there have been four poisonings in the city area I live in, all random, and all to dogs. All not surviving. A bit of a reassuance that it was not a target thing, but still painful all the same.

that is absolutley horrible Beth :( No one needs to go thru something like that. During my work I ran into a guy who had the same thing happen to him. and it was after that he learned how to keep it from happening again. Rogue might be too old for it now, but I'll tell you in a PM. (its not very common knowledge, and people trying to prevent dogs from being poisoned want it this way, thats why i won;t post how to prevent it here)
