I just got some cypres mulch for my BP that I'm getting this evening:D ...The thing is, i think i'm allergic to it!!! whenever i do something in the tank where i actually handle the substrate i start sneezing:confused: , well as long as the snake likes it:)

Is it pet store stuff of hardware store stuff? Either way I've found it to be dirty stuff. It can also have small bugs in it. It does look nice though, probably the best looking stuff of them all. A lot of people wash it before using it to get all the crap out. Use a sreen of some sort as a sifter and clean it in the tub that might help with the aleries too.
Cheers,
Trevor

I don't know about that idea, it may keep the humidity too high. If you keep it dry, it will create a lot of dust which can leave to respiratory problems as it clogs the vents and builds up internally. If you keep it wet you risk having too high of a humidity and bacteria forming. Hopefully I am thinking of the right substrate...lol

I think maybe you're thinking about ecco earth the coconut fiber. I tried it and I experienced exactly what you described. It was either too wet or too dry. When I did let it get dry I could hear the whistle it caused in a BP.

i have heard of people put the mulch on a pan and putting into the oven to kill parasites
