Hey all! I'm looking forward to bringing home my first snake, a cbb BP, this Saturday. I've done a ton of research, talked to a lot of owners, vets, breeders, etc., and handled a lot of different snakes (young and adult) and am excited to make the commitment!

I will be living in a dorm this year with five other people, who are all okay with the snake, under the condition that I keep the f/t food in a separate freezer than the one they will use for their food...

Do any of you know of a good, *small* freezer (not a fridge...just a freezer) that would be suitable for storing f/t food and would be small enough to be space-efficient in a dorm room? Maybe a small mini-fridge with a separate, good-quality freezer. I plan to go to Sears and check it out, but I don't know where to begin or if Sears is even the place to go... help!

I'd look for a chest freezer, they tend to be more economical energy-wise.

The mini fridges are mainly used for drinks, thus it has a really small freezer section. I guess since only have your ball to feed, it may be sufficient. Plus, I am sure that your dorm room is not very large, so space is a premium. I have looked for a small standalone freezer before, and have been unsuccessful. Do let us know if you ever locate one, I would be very interested.

we found a small chest freezer, it's probably about the size of 2 large bar fridges.

Lisa, where did you buy it from and how much did it cost?

i'd check the classifieds sections of local papers for bar fridges... the freezer in them is plenty big for mice/rats. I wouldn't buy new JUST to store feeders. or, try some garage sales or something.

An added bonus of having your own freezer is you can keep your goodies in there with less risk of your dorm mates eating them, there's always some leach who grabs other peoples food.
