Hi Everyone

I just got a california king snake (50/50) a few days ago. This is only my second snake so I have a feeding question. My first snake is a royal python and I know the rule of thumb for feeding her is one prey item every 5 to 7 days that is about the same girth that she is. Can someone tell me the rule of thumb for a king snake (i.e.: how often do they normally eat, how much do they eat and most important how should I judge what size of prey to feed him)?

Thanks

basically the same feeding applies for most snake, prey items 1-2 times the girth of the animal. The larger the prey, usually the longer the time between feedings, neo's on pinks every 4 days, adults on adult mice or rats every 7-14, adults boas or pythons on rabbits or larger every 14-21 days

Give it a prey item that will leave a distinct lump in its belly. Feed it again when it stops defecating. That's how I work it, and it works well.
