a good friend of mine..recently purchased a 0.1 baby African Rock python. The thing is growing like a weed and he wants to breed it in the future. He just recently picked up a male Albino Burm that is 4ft long. He was asking me if its possible to breed these two snakes since they are both pythons. Also if this is possible..would any of the babies be albino??
Has anyone ever heard of a Albino Afrock?
These would be African Albino Burmese Pythons...kinda cool if it works..i know some ppl have a problem w/ cross breeding..but this is just outta curiousity if it would work.

Yes.
It is possible.
But why would you want to?
It would work, none would be albino.
If your friend does do this I have one word for him- MICROCHIP!!

IF HE DOES THIS (WHICH I HOPE HE HAS SOME BRAINS AND DOESN'T) YOU WOULD GET NO ALBINOS AND NOT MANY PEOPLE ARE INTERSTED IN BUYING A ROCK/BURMESE CROSS ANY WAYS. KEEP YOUR LINES CLEAN IF YOUR GOING TO BREED. TAKE CARE NICK

i will show him these replies so that he thinks twice..i told him it wasnt a good idea..i think he is more interested in wanting an albino Afrock then he is in cross breading....
Andy..what do you mean by "MICROCHIP"??

Just remember what happened when someone decided to breed African bees with Eurpoean bees. That's how we ended up with Killer Bees. I'm sick to death of people polluting the bloodlines of animals just to get a cool looking morph.

the four foot male might be a tad to small. usually a male should be at least 6-7 feet long. how big is your female?

Hey djc3674,
I think what andy means by "MICROCHIP" is that if your friend does end up producing hybrids that he should get them "chipped" (getting a microchip put in all of the babies) so that if he does end up selling some you will always have a good track on them so if someone else actually sells it as an "new morph" the people who might buy it will know that its a hybrid and not a morph. I could be wrong though. Its kinda hard to explain.
Thanks,
Ben

Crossing of python lines is possible and is currently in production. This is a Burmese/Retic hybrid produced by Bob Clark and available thru him for $2500.

Should you friend have success, there should be no albinos, but all should be het for albino. He could then breed back the off spring and have a good shot at an albino Burmese/Rock cross. Couple of things, these snakes rarely will cross breed on there own and the off spring are usually genetically week and will not thrive. And the ones that do, usually will not breed.

aaaahhhh...i know what you mean..now...my pug has a microchip in his neck..but to do that to baby snakes..that would get costly im sure. Anyway..i dont think my friend is going to be able to do it anyway..he thinks now that the albino burm is a female. I told him it was a bad idea from the start...anyway...thanks everyone

I think it's a bad idea...I am moraly against unnatural hybrids, so don't do it! Keep the captive lines clean.
