Green Tree frog HELP!

Ok my Green Tree frog, Jade, that i have had a year is a little messed up... it looks like she is shedding but it has been doing this for over a week or so now and what happens is unless she is sitting in water it becomes hard and crusty on her back making her look terrible and she hasn't been the happy little frog she usually is. if i soak her in water it all comes off but then the next day it is back... her back is starting to look bad even after it comes off. is there anything i can do for her or because she is so small there is nothing? Does anyone have any idea what this is? She is starting to lose weight even tho she is a health size still. I feel so helpless with her.

Sadly Jade passed on sometime last night. I was getting help on another board I belong to and she was starting to look better but I guess she just couldn't fight anymore. :(

What you are desribing could be end stage kidney disease, in amphibians it often causes significant skin dehydration. Tough to say without bloodwork and a necropsy though.

But what would cause kidney disease in a tree frog? I am going to say you are probably right as I have no clue as to what it could be.
After she died the grey spots on her back seemed to be more wide spread than I thought(going onto her sides) and they turned black. She also had what looked like a blood spot on her belly but it was under that skin and it just looked like broken capillaries. It was really odd and came on suddenly. At least she is at peace now.

Frogs are extremely prone to kidney disease, since they absorb their environment so well through their entire skins. It's one of the main reasons they are called environmental indicators, that they are so sensitive to airborne and waterborne toxins.

Any slight toxins in the environment are easily passed into the body and can cause kidney challenge. Just other frogs' exhaled nitrogen in a group tank can be enough to cause kidney disease if there isn't sufficient air flow. Things like the gases given off by volatile organic compounds in paint or furniture, the chemicals in household cleaning products, perfumes and scents in so many of the things we use are absorbed.

All that on top of the fact that most frogs in the pet trade are wild-caught and are still dealing with that stress can make keeping them from toxing out can be a challenge.

so I know for future reference, what are the symptoms of kindey faiure in frogs?

Sudden death is unfortunately the usual way it's picked up. Dehydration of the skin regardless of humidity and availability of fresh water, bloating, dull cloudy color, and refusing to eat are sometimes noticed but it's often right before the frog dies.

Yeah that sounds about it but as for the bloating i just thought she was getting fat... that was before the other stuff started, but still recently. Can anything be done for it?
