update on the sick gecko

Well, off to the vet she went . . . as it turns out it's an unspecified neurological issue. Maybe caused by the hideous noises from the construction near our home and maybe some sort of parasite or viral infection. What we do know is that it isn't a deficiency or dehydration.

She's on bactril now and her pupils have gone back to a decent size and her head's usually only canted slightly to the side instead of full out stargazing so she's looking good:)

That's good to hear, Cornsss! I was just curious, how do you determine that the gecko does not have deficiencies, (such as a lack of calcium?) The fact that your gecko has 'neurological' dysfunctions without deficiencies in uncommon. Let us know what you find out! There are many reptile rehabilitators on here who would benefit from knowing the disorders and the symptoms of said disorders. Keep us updated!

hey samba, firstly, we do regularly dust feeder insects and as we inherited a sad little beardie several years ago with a serious calcium deficiency (poor guy had wicked mbd) we know what some nutrient shortages look like. Furthermore, the vet felt, having seen Gecklet, that she was healthy and well cared for with the obvious exception of her pupils and manner of carrying herself. Therefore her conclusion was that it was something other than a deficiency.

That being said, Gecklet died this morning. Her fecal sample had just gone to the vets office so we're still waiting to find out if it was indeed parasites or viral in nature. In all honesty, I can't afford a necropsy but I'm keeping a very close eye on her cage mates until we find out all we can from the fecal. And of course, once I know, I'll pass any info I get along the line.
