basically you want something that doesn't hold much moisture, like rosys other sand boas don't need the extra moisture or humidity, small water dish once a week and your fine.

I use finely shredded aspen, beause it's easier for her to burrow into, doesn't retain heat or moisture, and is easy to clean. Also if she swallows a little bit of the finely shredded aspen, it's less likely to cause impaction.

I keep my pair in small rubbermaids with inch layer of "Beta Chip" which was recommended by Mr. Roy Stockwell and have had great success with it and 100% sheds every single time. :)

I also use finely shreded aspen but I would use beta chip if I could get it. I use rubbermades too.

I house both of my adult pairs in 33 Gallon tanks with 50 watt heat bulbs and heat pads. 1 hot hide, 1 cool hide and I put a water dish in once a week for 24 hours. I use Childrens Play Sand as a substrate, but I always hand feed to protect against impactions. I'm no Stockwell but I have been producing baby sand boa's for 2 years now so I must be doing something right;)
