*"Sigh"*.....
Once again, the substrate, much like temperatures, enclosure size, lighting etc etc etc etc etc etc etc depends upon WHAT SPECIES OF ANIMAL YOU ARE HOUSING. We are not psychic.
Oh im sorry I have a sonoran gophersnake, and now a Bullsnake

I keep my Sonoran on Aspen Shavings, my Kings are happy on either paper towel or Aspen shaving, my BP's on Paper Towel, my BCI and Sand Boas on Repti-Forest Expandable Coconut fibre.

Jim is right. Aspen shavings (and chips) seem to work the best. They are cheap, they allow for burrows, and aspen in harmless to reptiles!!!
I'd go with aspen for Bulls and Pines man. For sure.
would i get that at a pet store. We have a small pet store but they have nothing but ceder and i here thats bad

Coy,
Definitely stay away from cedar and even pine is questionable. Some use it with no problems others stay away from it like the plaque. Until there is a definitive answer I personally will avoid pine shavings. Just ask your pet store if it is available. Up here in Ottawa a large bag sells for around 32.00 a bag (CDN) should be about 24.00 US. You can also use something called Carefresh, which is ground up paper in pellet form. I personally have not used it but some swear by it. You might also want to check with your local farm supply stores for the Aspen. It might be a bit cheaper as well.
Good luck
