Baby-another leo question(s)

My baby is off the sand (thanks for the advice everyone) and I am soooo glad that I took it off of it. Baby is now on a papertowel substrate. When I was cleaning I examined it's stool and they were mostly sand! since it is off the sand now it should be ok right? Can impaction happen in just the couple of days it was on the sand? What are the signs of impaction? Is there anything else I can do to make my baby happier and healthier?

lol the poop was probably covered in sand it's wet when it comes out...One of the signs of impacation is constipation. As for anything else lotsa crickets and a good hide.

Yeah it was covered in sand but it also crumpled into sand which i don't think normal poop should... and Baby gets lots of crixs and has a coconut hide and a butter tub humidity box. :) I have to wait until payday to get the fake plants and stuff for the tank. maybe a friend too but i think i will hold off on that until I can sex Baby so i don't accidentally end up with 2 fighting males, unless having a friend would be beneficial to Baby. What do you think?

Dark angel all the sand in the poop isn't good but if he/she isn't pooping at all thats when you should take immediate action and call a vet right away. I had my leos housed on a subtrate and all of them ate i completely removed them and put them on paper towels. it it took about 2 full weeks until they finally got it out of their system. hope thats a little helpfull

I agree with Jamie. Good for you that the baby is no longer on sand. It can cause impactation, but I don't think your gecko is effected by that. If your gecko stops deficating see a vet, as this is a symptom of something very serious. Geckos that are kept on sand typically have sand in their feces. This is because the sand can cling to insects (sometimes the insects cling to it), and/or the gecko gets a mouthful while hunting.

i keep my leopard gecko on sand now. Buts it pretty much full grown. Do you think there could still be a problem because i know there is a lot of debate on this subject but my leopard seems to be pooing a lot and when she hunts i watch her spit the sand out when she gets to much. What do you guys think?
