This is acutally the first thing I though of as well when I read that first post!! Not "hey, stop slamming America".

I don't hate anyone mentioned in this thread so far (with the exception of Bill Clinton, someone mentioned that criminal, but I will not get into that on this already heated thread). Just accept that the Canadians are going to make jokes about the USA, and the Americans are going to make jokes about our frozen neighbors. Happens all the time on this site, and it is USUALLY all in good fun.

Yes JasonBrennan, I agree. My first post started off as a joke but I saw that I got a couple people peeved. When I see I'm getting a nice response like that, I cannot help but keep going. First off I'd like to say that I enjoy both Living in the US and traveling in Canada. In particular I enjoy Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Quebec. Here are a few corrections to the first post.


4. Baseball is Canadian (Baseball is not canadian, There are two ideas of where it may have come from. One is that it came from an english game called rounders and the second that a guy named graves made it up in cooperstown N.Y.)

5. Lacrosse is Canadian (Lacrosse is not canadian it was invented by the native american indians of north america)

7. Basketball is Canadian (Wrong, basketball was invented in Massachusetts by a Dr. James Naismith in 1891

8. Apple pie is Canadian (Wrong again. It originated in England and apple seeds were first brought to the new world in 1620)

11. In the war of 1812, started by America, Canadians pushed
the Americans back...past their 'White House'. Then we burned it...and most of Washington, under the command of William Lyon McKenzie who was insane and hammered all the time. We got bored because they ran away, so we came home and partied...Go figure.. (wrong, Invading British troops burned the White House during the closing months of the War of 1812. )

(Velcro is wrong - After a walk in the woods, Swiss inventor George de Mestral noted the difficulty of removing burrs from his wool pants. This prompted him to examine them under a microscope, where he discovered that each burr was made up of tiny hooks that attached themselves to the loops of thread in the fabric.

From there, de Mestral inferred that a manmade version of these "hooks and loops" would provide a simple, foolproof fastener. He eventually devised a way to manufacture the product, patented the process, and called the concoction Velcro, from the words velvet and crochet (the French term for "hook").

Zipper is wrong. It was made by Whitcomb L. Judson of Chicago.

Penicillin is wrong. It was discovered by an Englishman named Fleming and was successfully produced and tested by two more Englishmen named Howard Florey and Ernst Chain

Zamboni is wrong too. It was made by Frank Zamboni of Los Angeles.

Telephone is wrong. The idea was originated by a Frenchmen named Bourseul in 1854. Then the idea was taken by a german named Philipp Reis but had some flaws and then bell perfected it. Bell was scottish and moved to canada.

Short wave is wrong too. It was invented by Dr. Lee de Forest of Iowa and Marconi of Italy (who was also the original inventor of wireless communications prior to shortwave).

Oh forgot one more thing. Plaid didn't come from Canada it came from Scotland and was mentioned in Shakespears work Macbeth. Since he was born in 1564 obviously it didn't come from canada.

Found another mistake. Back in 1967, Laurent Beaudoin had a vision. And that vision, was to put the famed "Ski-Doo" on the water. Well, each president has his good points and his bad. I for one thought Bill Clinton ran the country quite smoothly (for 8 years, no less). And when Bush got into the chair...

He didn't give a crap about anything but getting head. You msut agree that that is a somewhat ignorant assement... while I do conquer that Clinton could have taken more decisive action in some cases, and probably could have avoided a huge mess by avoiding lewinski... but he did care about more than just "getting head".

I have been reading this thread since the start and have seen some call us canadians cowards and such. I am glad that we all have the freedom of speach on this side of the world.I would point out that in the past When we were needed to fight for this freedom we were there no if's and's or but's I had a lot of family fight in the second world war and most of them never came home.ww1 ww2 and korea we were there when it was nessary and we gave our blood and our sons and our fathers for freedom.We have all sacrificed at the alter of freedom Canadian American English French and on and on It is sad to see all of us forget what has past and what was given to give us all what we have.


here is a tid bit of info on some of what Canadian troops did as part of an Allied force in the second world war.



After the blitzkrieg on Europe in May 1940, German forces occupied the Netherlands for the duration of the Second World War. The occupation of their country by the Nazi forces caused the royal family to flee the country. Queen Juliana and her two young daughters, Princess Beatrix and Princess Irene fled first to the United Kingdom and then to Canada, where they found refuge during the war. Princess Margriet, the royal couple's youngest daughter, was born at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.

Yet, Canada's relationship to the Netherlands, and for that matter, occupied Europe, goes far beyond the country being a safe haven for displaced royalty. After the D-Day offensive, the war turned for the Allies. As German forces, still fighting extensively, pulled back, Europe was released from the Nazi stronghold.

The First Canadian Army, under Guy Simonds, cleared the way for supply lines to reach Normandy by contributing to the Allied effort to open the Belgian port of Antwerp. The Battle of the Scheldt started at the beginning of October 1944 and carried on through to the end of November. Despite heavy casualties, the Canadians pushed on through fierce opposition, and by November 8, German resistance had ceased. Convoys arrived at the channel starting on November 28
