Hey everyone I'm just new to the subjet on boas I'm olny keen on pythons and I was looking through some of the posts around sites and carpet pythons seem very interesting. I think i've seen some pics of them up around here i was just wondering are they good for handling I've got a younger cousins and stuff who love to hold my snakes and I was wondering if carpet pythons don't mind kids and teens going crazy trying to pet him/her? Also how big do they get usually? One last thing hows there temperment?
thanks
p.s any pics????

hi i live in australia and i have recently aquired a coastal carpet python as a pet in regards to your question i have been doing lots of research on them. they are a very placid snake 9 out of ten times.if you get one that is aggresive then you have been rather unlucky. they make a great first snake and are fantastic with children. the average size is between 6 and 9 feet long though they can grow to 14 feet. they are very hardy and make a great captive. they live for around thirty years. they also tolerate a wide variety of temperature fluctuations. there is one drawback with them though they need to have their cage kept fairly clean. the other thing is they can be a bit nervous. they are prone to stress but this is easily overcome by way of providing a hide box. they are semi arboreal so they prefer a high tank as opposed to a low wide tank. my snake is only 55 cms long (22 inches) and i am currently building a 4foot x 4foot x 2 foot cage for him to grow into.please feel free to contact me or email me as i have pics and care sheets galore and also personal pics of my own snake and cage that i have built. take care and happy keeping.

I have a little irian jaya carpet Pythons, she is a sweet really tame girl, likes to get out of her enclosure and likes to stay still on my hand watching what's going on around her.
They get 4-5 feet long.
I never heard of an aggressive irian jaya, but, my opinion is...
any species can have a tame one, it only depends of the individual... like humans.

The one I have is rarely on the floor.. always on a branch.

I just aquired a pair of Jungle carpet babies and I have my fingers crossed (and bandaged) hoping they settle with age.. they strike anything that moves.. hopefully they will grow out of it.
