HI all! I just picked my baby up at petco and thought I would share some pictures. This is my first leo and I am soo happy since they usually cost $80 for the older ones at petco but they had a shipment of babies so I was able to get mind for $30. :) It has been named Baby... how original huh? Well I have a few questions...

What type of morph do you think it is?

When are they old/big enough to sex?

Is a 20Gal long tank with butter tub turned upside down with damp moss in it, a coconut hide, small water dish, small calcium dish, basking light, and zoomed's reptile sand substrate ok?

I don't need a uvb light since it is nocturnal right?

Any suggestions as to how to make this little baby's life a bit better with me?

Thanks for your help!

Pics didn't work

Here are the links

Baby 2 (http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=9219&papass=&sort=1&thecat=511)

Baby 3 (http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=9220&papass=&sort=1&thecat=511)

Also I forgot... Do their color change as they grow? Right now it seems orange and black & it has a line right down the center of its back. Would the orange make it a tangerine or will it lighten?

Thanks!

Hi!
Congratulations, but in the future I'd advise you not to buy from petstores. They don't take care of their animals and are only in it for the money. Their prices are quite high, too. You can get normal babies for 30$ CANADIAN here.

But anyway, your baby is cute and healthy, so no worries! (but you should get a fecal done to make sure it doesnt have any parasites)

It looks like a normal to me, and should be sexable at between 5 and 8 months of age.

Yes, your set up sounds fine, but for now you should keep it in a small plastic rubbermaid with papertowel bedding. That way she won't get stressed by the space and won't get impacted by the dirt substrate. It'll be easier to monitor it's eating and pooping and so on.

You don't need a UV light.

Give it a good enclosure with lots of plants and pieces of wood etc to explore, and when its an adult feed it silk worms, wax worms and pinkie mice as treats (keep crix as a staple diet tho)

Yes it will change colours as it grows - you probably cant really tell what it'll look like as an adult now.

When it's a baby like that it'a advisable not to house it on any subtrate but paper towles or newspaper. Any other subtrate has the chance of impacting. have that as the subrate until he/she is at least 6 inches.

You can also have mealworms as a stable diet along with the crix. make sure you gutload all food before feeding.

The picture looked like it was a normal leo.

congrats on your new addition. He/she is a real cutie.

It is a normal even though it doesn't have many spots? How old do you think it is since it is about 3.5"-4" long (i'm guessing)? How long does it usually take to get them eatting? How long should i wait before even thinking of minimally handling it?

Sorry for the millions of questions, but thanks for the help!

Well, congrats first of all-by this time next year you will probably have aquired about 10 more!-they are addicting!:D
Your baby is a normal leo, very cute too.
Sexable around three months.
Your set up is perfect except for one small thing-never use sand. I don't even recommend it for adults. Why? Because once I switched my adults to blue shop towel they pooped sand for quite a while and I no longer trust it, especially for babies.
UV is not necessary, just a regular light so that he/she knows it's day time.
Hope you enjoy he/she cause they don't stay little for long. He/she will develope adult coloration soon, it changes slowly. As an adult the regulars have a yellow-orangey back ground with dark spots head to tail.:D

The black bands on your leo will break up into many little black spots.

The leo should eat the first night you get it... but it may take a few days for it to settle in. It should definitely be eating in a week. Offer some small crickets, and some meal worms in a jar lid (all dusted and gutloaded).

I wouldn't handle it too much right yet... give it a couple weeks to settle in then start handling it. It'll take a while to settle down - all babies are nippy at first. Mine scream at me all the time.
