I have 5 ball pythons a 2.3 group and I keep many different snakes as well. Dan and Collette Sutherland the snake keepers have been working with BP's exclusively for years. http://www.ballpython.com/home.shtml

Balls are a great snake to keep. They are very docile and they are a manageable size. I love how they look and think that the morphs can be pretty cool too. The morphs are out of my price range but something like corn snake morphs are affordable.
I think that buy having different kinds of snakes, you can really appreciate the differences between them. I have a striped Cali. King who looks stunning but he can be very pissy when trying to handle him. I really appreciate the thickness of the ball's body after handling my corn snake.
Whatever snakes you keep...you do become addicted. You want to get more and more. Once you really know how to keep them it's not too much of a stretch to keep another one. I want to get a few more species of snake but I wouldn't turn down another ball if it came along.

Keeping a variety of snakes can be a very rewarding experience, because there are so many differences between them, with their temperaments, requirements, sizes, etc. I highly recommend getting a variety.

I have a corn snake and a ball python but i don't plan on getting another bp cos it would be to hard to tell them apart!

I have 7 balls right now and they suite my needs quite nicely, I used to keep large constricros but due to unforseen problems, I have been forced to move to a smaller place. BP's are great I forgot how much fun they are...Most people think of them as common begginer snakes and forget jsut how wonderfull they can be...Plus there are so many morphs available now you have tons to choose from.
Ignored by experts? How did you arrive at this conclusion??????? Some of the biggest names in the industry, some of the pioneers in breeding and keeping reptiles, have a focus or at least partial focus, on ball pythons......

i keep 1.5 bp, 1.1 borneo short tailed pyhtons, 1.1 blood pythons, 1.1 columbian red tail boa. thay are great, just remember the old saying "variety is the spice of life" p.s. fateamber why dont you look at the patterns on the bp and certain distinctions on the snakes to tell them apart( such as my male bp has the #80 on his side so his name became Jerry as in Jerry Rice) take care Nick
