Hello Kollen.
Thought I'd try and help you I.D. your little girl. I'm thinkin' you've got yourself a Great Basin a.k.a. Crotalus viridis lutosus. These are one of nine sub-species to the Prarie Rattlesnake, Crotalus viridis viridis. They are a very beautiful snake and I've had only good experiences with these as captives. They usually stay around 40 odd inches as adults although I did have one "old girl" that was 52" at the time of her death. Actually I'm quite sure that she was a cross with Crotalus v. viridis and that may account for her slightly larger than average size. Anyway, these "guys" are found in the Lower Sierra Nevada Mountains, southern Idaho, southwestern Oregon northern California and parts of Utah, Arizona and Nevada. There should be little difficulty in obtaining info on these guys but if there is something specific you would like to know, I'm standing on gaurd for thee...{sorry, little Canada Day humor}. Anyways good luck and stay safe. Cheers!

LOL Very nice specimen Kolleen!! i wonder daily where you get all the room...

Is it de-fanged? If it is do oyu pet it? Say it isn't de-fanged and you went to pet him/her but he/she didn't rattle or hiss would you?I mean wouldn't they be used to you and not bite? but then again I guess it's not worth your life is it? How many snakes do you have anyway?

Even if it wasn't a rattlesnake, why would you "pet" it anyways? Its not a dog, its a snake. Petting and reptiles does not usually sit well with me.

I would have to agree with jeff here...
I personnally love snakes because of their wilderness.. not to play with it..
If I had a venomous snake at home, for sure I would stand in front of his enclosure for hours looking at him :)

You guys are a riot sometimes...
Well, She isnr\t de fanged and I only handle her to clean her cage. I find that plenty. She rattles at me once in awhile, but usually doesnt pay much attention to me.
Nicky, Im up to about 80 snakes now and another clutch do in a few days.
Jeff S, Well....i build a new cage or rack at least once a week it seems...
There is ABSOLUTLY NO room for me in my house...but only 1 more year and Ill have a house that I can have twice this many in...They just keep coming...lol
