View Full Version : Leo terrified of pinkies!?
Well I have a 4 year old, MASSIVE male leopard. Hes always been on a diet of kings,mealies and crickets. Yesterday I decided to give him a pickie mouse and he look at it for one second and tore off across the cage hiding behind anything he could find, while doing that he was also screeching!
So I thought maby I caught him off gaurd so I moved it towards him and he backed up against the glass screeching like crazy. Anyone know why he does this? I cant think of any reason, hes the first leo I have had that rejects pinks.

i have never heard of anything like that at all. Every adult leo i have seen has either had an intrest in them or if they didn't they would just walk away. sorry couldn't be anymore help.
Maybe try again in a few weeks and se what his reaction is.
I tried again today and he flipped out again lol

thats one of the weirdest things i have ever heard. My leopard is almost full grown and when i tried to give him a pinkie he just walked away. I guess it was a little to big for him but he didnt flip out. Maybe he thinks that its trying to kill him lol

Your leo was obviously frightened (even though we humans don't understand why). Perhaps introducing a pinky into his cage (during feeding time... in a bowl of supers or mealies) and leaving them alone for awhile would help. I know leos are curious creatures, and he's bound to investigate it sometime, (especially being a male... he's got to know what's in his territory). Maybe then he'll discover it's something he can eat! LOL

was the pinkie alive? If so maybe try a frozen one that is not moving. My big boy seneca LOVEs pinkies. He gobbles them up in seconds and still scarfs a bowl of mealies right after

I would strongly discourage doing that. The supers will eat the pinky before the gecko gets a chance to warm up to it.

A couple of mine are dead scared of 'em, others love 'em. One female will watch a pinkie being eaten, almost lose her nose in the other leo's mouth watching it get chewed, but she shrieks if a pinkie even touches her.
