Feeder Dish

Due to my shoddy carpentry I'm going to have to use a feeder dish to feed my veiled cham. But when I have tried in the past, it just doesn't work... they just don't eat out of it. I left it in for a full day and not a nibble. Do you think he'll eventually come around and get used to eating from it?

The bowl should not be clear where the chameleon can see the insects through the sides. Place the bowl where you find the chameleon to be most of the time. Will it eat out of your hand, if so use the bowl to hand feed with. Once the chameleon gets use to feeding out of the bowl in your hand, it will know where to find food when you place the bowl in the cage. The main thing is the chameleon must be able to see the bugs in the bowl. I have found that older chameleons take to bowl feeding better. Hope this helps!

Ok, thanks. You confirmed my theory that older chameleons take better to bowl feeding than younger ones... it's the same thing with them eating veggies, right?

My bowls are more like a feeding station, I am using the ones Bill wrote about in the Ezine, I like them better then a regular bowl because I have a automatic misting system on the indoor cages and outdoor cages. The indoor cages they are feed with out bowls so don't need to worry about water collecting in them and drowning the feeders. Outdoors the screen is to big so a bowl is needed, so I use the ones in the article only because it gives the crickets a place run to if the bowl collects to much water, even though there are small holes in the bottom to drain the water.
