Hi my ball python is just about 28inches and my cage is 30in. by 12in. by 19in. it is a 29 gallon fish tank. He has been eating well from the day I got him and he is always sleeping in his hide spot. Please tell me if the cage is big enough. Also is it necessary to get a hydrometer.

That tank should be big enough for an adult ball python.

A hydrometer is nice but not necessary. Most of the affordable ones are not accurate anyway. It's hard to keep humidity in an open top tank. You could cover a large portion of the top to keep the humidity in better or you could put in a humid hide. Humidity is really only a problem when shedding. If you put in a humid hide for your ball when you notice that he is going to shed...then you should not have to worry about the humidity the rest of the time.

If you want more floor space for your snake when it gets older you could lay the tank on its side and double the amount of floor space. Works better to keep hymidity in too. Check out my gallery for pics of tanks on there side.

Thats not a bad idea but i already put the underground heater on and where would the light go.

You should never stick them to the glass beacause if the tank should ever break then you need a new tank and heater. They can be removed if your carefull not to bend it. I use screen lids and dont bother with lights.

Well thats the problem because I live in Florida but I dont have enough room in the garage. If he was in the garage I would be able to do that but I would guess the tank is big enough i will have pics soon.
