A few of you have read and looked at pictures I posted of my newest addition.:D As you know she was having some problems from the time I got her. Thought I could bring it around o>. Well I guess there were other plans for her. She died today.:w I was soaking her after her dose of Baytril. I left her for a minute when I came back she was dead. I just don't understand what went wrong? Well I just thought that I would let you all know. Thanks for the support in advance. Jamie/Blueeheeler

So sorry Blueheeler. I'm sure you did the best you could for her, but sometimes nature wins. Like Zoe said though, I'm sure the rest of your legless friends can cheer you up.

Thank you all for your kind words. I have spent most of the evening with all of my snakes. As it was feeding day for my culbrids. So I got to hold them all. It did make me feel better knowing that they are healthy and growing like weeds. But, I couldn't help but think of my baby boa and how much she will be missed. The only thing that gets me through is the fact that I know she is no longer suffering.
Rest in Peace my sweet ANGEL!:w

sorry on your recent loss blueeheeler, its good all the others are doing well though. upper resperatory gets the best of us.
were you using oral batril or intramuscular?
i dont know how much knowledge you have on the infection,
but just for future reference with my experience i find that the oral baytril works way better. i also use pedialite to liquify the pill with a drop of vitamins instead of water. i cant recall the name right now its called repti-vitamin or something like that. i hope you dont need this for future reference
and wish you good luck on all your snakes health.

I don't know how old you boa was, but by "baby I am guessing under one yr of age. Baytril, nor any other antibiotic is recommended for ANY snake under the age of one year. These antibiotics are very potent, especially Baytril. Amikacin is also used, and may not be as strong as Baytril, but no antibiotic is recommended for use on any snake younger than one year. I am sorry for the loss of your boa, and I am glad you have other snakes to help console you. Peace

As BurmBaroness said, antibiotics will KILL baby snakes. What vet treated it??? We need to know so that others in your area will not use that vet....

im very sorry to hear of your loss,i myself had the same experiance not too long ago and i know its not easy...its like loosing one of your children and nothing will compensate for the life that you lost. i only hope that the future holds a lot of great happyness for you and as BurmBaroness said antibiotics really do harm babies, i just hope you nail the sucker that perscribed them

Man of Steel- just to let you know that she did not have an RI. The baytril was just a precaution. If I knew then what I know now I would have never given her the baytril. She suffered from Regure of 2 adult mice from a previous owner, he only had her for 10 days and had fed her twice. What a dumb a**. I fed her once 1 day old rat pup, and she regurged that within 12 hours. Anyway thank you for your kind words.
Ldydrgn & BurmBaroness - Thank you also for your posts. She was under 2 months. Just wish that you had posted sooner so I could have stopped the baytril. She might still be alive if not for the Baytril.
Vet Name is Brandon Barrett, Turlock CA located at Turlock Vet Community. He states that he treat only reptiles and exotics on his card.
Everyone - Thank you for all of your posts it is great to be in such a fine community like this one. All of your words are greatly appreciated. I only hope none of you go through this, nor do I want to go through this again. It is quite sad and hard on the heart knowing that I gave her something that was to help her yet it killed her. Happiness to one and all. Jamie

Someone in TN lost his baby White-Lipped python not too long ago. I posted then that Baytril will kill baby snakes. Also on RTB it is posted numerous times....
What I am trying to say is: I am sorry for your loss, but sometimes when dealing with an exotic species where it is difficult to locate a good vet, it is best to read past threads that relate to the same problems you are having before seeing any 'Exotics' vet because not all of them know the right stuff. Do your research so this won't happen again. :(
