Bullsnakes?

We have a lot of bullsnakes from many different localities in the U.S and Canada.

They are great snakes. A hissy bullsnake is a healthy bullsnake. Even when they do "tame down", they are prone to the odd "bad hair day" or "hissy fit".

They are all bluff.

Funny story about bluffing.

Bullsnakes live native to our area (SW Saskatchewan Canada). We have active dens 12 kms from our house.

We had a video crew out here a couple months ago taping "a day in the life of Sheila and Ryan" for possible Animal Planet use. We found a 6' bullsnake, really thick, a really big head, and a really loud hiss.

I picked it up (they usually quite striking, and sometimes quit hissing when you get them in hand). The camera got in close to the snakes face, which was near my right forearm at the time.

The snake was hissing, and I went on to talk about how they are famous bluffers, and I've never been bit by one.

Wham! Big bite right to the arm.

I started bleeding from 2 spots on my arm that were 3'' away.

I don't think I flinched much - but everyone started laughing because they knew it would make a good blooper.

I can't wait to find this big brute at his den in the fall, I will again try and hold him.
