Every now and again I start losing it and must vent :hammer:

I think I like my spelling of Hog Island boas with ten G's as an alternate to the common mis-spelling of Hog with 2 G's

It's not Hogg, the correct spelling is Hog Island and in spanish-- Cayos cochinos, which directly translated means "island of pigs"

here they are situated off the coast of Honduras:

a larger map of showing Honduras and directly north-centre of the country you can see "Hog Island"....

and a more detailed map of the islands....

Just one of those things that feels like being lashed by a wet noodle after seeing it over and over and over.

Okay I feel better now :D

Haha I know what you meen! Look at the whole Savu/Sawu thing. They species is from the Savu Island in the Sawu sea. I think Savu would be the proper name since the species is not aquatic, so it doesn't come from the Sawu Sea. Goo info on Hog Island, I did not know that! Thanks.

Oh and the first link works! So your not that bad at computers. 1 for 3! :D

I'm glad you posted that Chris. I've always used one "G".
Cheers,

Yup... I've always called em Hog Isle Boas... its a pet peeve of mien as well... same with ColUmbian Redtailed boa.... it's not a redtail and there is no "U" in Colombia!

I've seen them in stores spelled hoGG, and that's why I spelled it that way. Oh well.

What are you saying about the redtails? That there is no such thing as a Columbian Red Tail Boa?

Colombia is spelled this way.

Technically, Colombian red-tailed boas do exist, these are usually exported from Leticia, Colombia...a town in extreme southern Colombia, although they are thought to be smuggled from Peru and Brazil. Being basically a border town I'm sure other things get smuggled through there....a certain white powder comes to mind.....

What I imagine Linds is saying is how people consistantely refer to Colombian BCI's as "red-tails". These are usually exported from Barranquilla, a city in the extreme north of Colombia.

You can see both towns on this map...note the fair distance between them:

Oh ya forgot to mention...BCI's are thought to exsist only west of the Andes mountains, and the "Colombian BCC's or Redt-tails"....west of the Andes. You can clearly see the mountain chain on the map

*correction* BCC's are found EAST of the Andes

Yup, that's what I meant, I should have made it a little more clear :) The term "redtail" was only applied to Colombian BCI's a few decades ago by dealers to increase the dollar value of the BCI, since true redtails (BCC) fetch a much higher price, and the subspecies can be similar in appearance at times. That is when redtails had to be referred to as "true redtails".

So I have what I was lead to believe is a Colombian Red Tail, if I showed a pic of her would you be able to truly tell if she is or isn't? (And of course at this moment I don't have a pic, but I'm trying to get my hands on a digital camera soon.)

If you bought it at a store..... 99.999999999...% chance it is a Colombian BCI, and even if you bought it from a breeder the chances are almsot as good that it is still a Colombian BCI. *True* Colombian Redtails are very rare in the hobby, and pretty well everything you see labelled as a "Colombian Redtail" is a Colombian BCI......
