Congrats Jeff and if it makes you feel any better Im 33 and just got my license a couple of months ago. Of course I had it before I just had it taken away about 11 or 12 years ago and kept on driving I had a saying,"I dont need a license to drive, I just need one to get pulled over" :p so I had a ton of tickets to pay off before I finally got to get it again.
Man theres nothin like driving without checkin your rearview all the time scanning for cops. I dont think Illl miss cops cruising behind me with their lights on scaring the crap outta me and then just passing me by, or worse pullin me over.

In my defence, I have lived on my own in Vancouver, Seattle, and Waterloo (Ontario), but have been living with my parents for the past few years.

Isn't there some type of system now that goes in stages. I've been driving since wheels were made of rock,(;o) but I've heard it's a real pain now, and you can't drive at night or on highways or need another licensed driver or some damn thing.. How the heck does it all work now?
I started with a Motorcycle license but the deal was you needed to rent a trailed to get the bike to the test site, since there was no temp license for bikes.I hear that's much easier now to get a bike license but much harder for cars
Just Curious
Congrats by the way

Roy, definatly... When you turn 16 (or older in cases like my own, LOL), you can write a test and get what is called a G1 License... its 100$ and that gives you the right to drive your car with 1 person in the car with you who has had there full license for more then 4 years. You cant drive after 12:00am - 5:00am. You have to have the G1 license for a MINIMUM of 8 months with driving school or 12 months if you dont go to driving school. Then you go and take your road test for your G2 License... G2 is pretty much a full license but you can have 0 alchohol in your blood... If you drank 1 beer 5 hours ago and get pulled over and blow ANY trace of alchohol you get charged.. pretty ptupid but thats the only limitation with the g2... then you have that for 5 years and you can get your full G license.. LOL so the process takes a minimum of 6 years to get your FULL license.. its ridiculas.
and even if you are like 40 when you go, you STILL have to go through the whole process now... Oh yeah if you fail your test for your G (FULL LICENSE) They drop you back down to G1 untill you can schedule a road test for your G2 again... Sometimes it can take months... if you book a road test now, you cant get in untill October for the G or G2... I had to go all the way to peterborough on a last miunte cancelation, my origional test wasnt untill August 8th! :P

Wow! wouldn't it be easier and take less time to just become a cop, then you could even run with the siren on, without getting pulled over!LOL
Thanks for the explanation!

lol the irony is, the old permit the 365, you had to get your license in under 365 days, now you cant for at LEAST 365 days... go figure! :P
Wow! And I thought I was pathetic for not getting my liscence since I turned 16 in October! Thanks for the cheering up!;)
dan
I'm glad I got my licence on the old system.

Man I am sorry that you all have to go through that just to drive. If that was the case here in the states, I think there would be less idiots on the road. But, more illegal drivers on the road too! In a way I think it is for the best. But once you reach a certain age you should not have to go through all of that. Just my opinion. Congrats to all of you for getting your licenses. Blueeheeler

For my B-Day my parents gave me money and they will pay half of my driving licence.
With the course and teacher here in quebec it's 500$ ($499.99) which includes a full day of explination of the rules and regulations in a classroom, a test to get your temporary licence (must drive with a person who has his/her driving licence) for 8 months, 20 (or something like that) hours of driving with a teacher at the end of the 8 months and a driving test after the20 hours to get your "probatoire" for 3 years and after 3 years you get your full licence.
So complicated!
Congrats Jeff! :D
later,
SnowSnake
Congrats Jeff :D
In holland you have to get your theory licence first, before you can do your practicall licence. In order to get that you have to learn all the signs and stuff that you can pass on the road and make an exam. Most people need about 33 hours of driving before they can do a practical exam.
Works very well, but you will always have a-holes on the road, no matter what you do :D
